Scanned from thismornings Orlando Sentinel (Sunday).
Again for some reason I could not set up link for the article this is part of. Take care marc |
gdfatha,
Living in the Orlando area too I read it. They won't be happy till they make ALL the water Manatee zones. I recently went up the St. Johns River. What a joke. If you start at Sanford and head north. It is either "No Wake" or "25 MPH Maximum Speed". Heck I got told I was going too fast. I was in my 1949 Chris-Craft. Also, the river is dead, very few boats. Above Deland heading toward Lake George it is better in many spots. A real shame. |
Manatees
HOW BOUT WE PUT THEM IN THE RETENTION PONDS
THAT ARE EVERYWHERE?? There are 3276 sea cows now as opposed to 1700 TEN years ago!! "With a greater population, you'll have a greater mortality". |

Of course "They" know how many manatees there are!
"They" are called Mote Marine Laboratory, and have been doing aerial surveys since 1972 when a Manatee Act was passed. Mote also does studies on marine grasses! Dont beleive everything you read and consider the source. |
Kitten,
Are you saying that Aerial Surveys are a Reliable way to count Manatees? Dean |
