Just saw a guy puttin a 42 lightning in at the ramp. Tried to talk to him and he was real short and arrogant. What gives? Not the first time I've tried to say hi and talk to someone about their boat.
Are you like this? Why would anyone act this way? Just wondering could it have been that he was pissed that his 42 foot boat felt more like a 39 footer ? . |
When I launch, I put on a fake knee brace and get out of the truck with a set of old crutches. I always get a lot of help from other boaters, They basically get my boat in the water for me while I watch and direct them. After they get it tied to the dock I'll hang out a little till they are gone.
Then, I throw the crutches in the back of the truck, take off the brace, grab my ice chest and and run to the boat. But I am polite through the whole process and thank them for the help. Same way when I go to a concert I role in with an old wheelchair and always seem to get on the front row. It seems people are willing to help more and be more polite to someone in need, plus it makes them feel good about themselves they helped someone. |
The correct answer to this scenario is that he thought that you were the repo man !

Seriously? Are you that concerned with his grammar? Get over yourself
Not only Grammar...... I'm the kind of guy that will tell a stranger that he has snot hanging out his nose and not allow him to walk around and look foolish. He's probably a great kid but his keyboard strokes take something away from that illusion. Just throwing out a little advice.... he is free to take it or leave it, just as you would be free to tell your S.O. she has snot hanging or let her walk around that way. Seems to fit in the "Questions about people" thread. . |
Sometimes its the opening comment "Nice Cigarette boat" or he simply may have complimented the man's wife "You're grand daughter looks stunning". People are so uptight.

If I'm at the dock or sandbar and see a nice boat, I'll throw a compliment to the owner. If I get the "holier than thou" face, I'll add a line like "I had NO IDEA Bayliner made anything like that", and quickly walk away before they can correct me.

For myself, launching at a public boatramp is typically the worst tine to be approached.
But, I've never been a peckerhead about it and have actually asked one or two if they can assist in exchange for a quick boat ride when I've had a daughter with me. Funny thing is I've actually felt the same as ICU once ot twice when interacting with some other boaters who don't think Baja's are real boats too!!! I was actually laughing to myself wondering if this owner is a member or a lurker here as I'm sure he's probably aware of the website. I absolutely agree on being friendly to people everytime your towing or out in the drink. You never know when you'll see someone or need something again as you became a victim of the Texas triangle. For those not in the know; The Texas triangle is that no matter how large your state is, there will be one moment you need something or someone and the first person you see is the one you tossed off. See ya, Kelly |
Not a kid. But thats okay.
