That red Chris cat is a great deal. If you pick up some low hour take out 525's and some used/rebuilt surface drives you would have a relatively cheap and reliable package. But you will need to be prepared to up your $$$ limit and live with the small cockpit. Motors, drives, headers, and rigging are going to be a long way north of the $8000 you have left over to spend. I think it would be difficult to get that boat on the water under $50,000. That would still be a good deal, but at that price there are other boats to look at.

I agree that Chris Cat should run close to 100 with 600's. Great running boats and this red one looks very sharp. If someone is serious about buying a CC, I would check it closely for moisture as they are known to rot.

Doc... I don't think 24 Skaters are all that dangerous... They are just fast enough and handle rough water well enough that you need to pay attention to what you're doing.
I'm always on Texoma with mine, hit me up and I'll take you for a ride. |
Tim - thanks - I may do that... Do you/did you ever hang out at Deer Cove over by Grandpappy Point?

I've got a 1998 28' Profile cat with twin 300's on it that I would let go for around $30,000. Boat is not perfect, but not bad either.
90 mph and basically maintenance free. |
This is what I would buy if your looking for a cheap fast cat

I am on motorcycle forums and I know I get tired of the constant - "what should I get" threads... So I apologize for posting one of my own on a boating forum. I just thought I would see if what I am looking for above is even possible.
I have owned sport boats and also a 32 Chaparral Laser which was basically a cruiser with semi go-fast looks .. Wasn't very fast - but I do have some larger boat experience. I really like the way cats look - but I am not looking to race one, want something bigger than just 5 people - possibly with cuddy's in the sponsons.. Don't want to wrench it anymore than I would a boat with a single 5.7 unmodded merc in it, and don't want to go over $20k for sure in purchasing. Yes, I know I could find something beat up and needing a new transom, power, etc to likely meet my guidelines but I would prefer to get something that I could at least use while I rebuild. To top it all off something like the Aronow 39, or maybe that elusive Wellcraft Cougar Cat (not the excalibur) are a couple that I have found that LOOK like they might meet my needs - but of course both are rare and at least the Aronow, is WAY over $20k... This may be an unattainable goal - and if so, I can stick to V hull's.. Just thought I would throw it out there... Thanks! Doc Idk if you've noticed a recent thread started by another OSO member, but he was looking for info on a 28 Daytona ICC boat @ yacht world for 59K. Yes, I realize that's well over a 20K, I just thought that was an exceptional price for a 2005 Twin engine 496 Daytona. I don't know of anything in that range for you, just reading other OSO members comments, there seems to be some good deals out there, best of luck! |
