Default "cloudy" exhaust tips

Every time I go to Torch Lake my new exhaust tips get a "cloudy" white residue on them. They do not seem to do it after any other lake. I am assuming there is something in that super clean water that is doing it. I have tried several things to clean them but nothing gets it 100% off. What is the best way to get it off of there. Someone told me that there way a lot of lime in Torch Lake so I was going to try lime-away or crc or similar but thought I would check here first.

Thanks

I get the same thing.. I use lime away on them.. I lay papertowel on the tips, then soak the papertowel with lime away. let it sit a few minutes and it should come off... might have to rub a little to get some stubburn stains off......

I've found Barkeepers Friend to work on anything stainless.
It's a stainless cleaner and polish the looks like a cleanser but has a light acid content to it. Just don't use it on any aluminum items, it'll turn gray immediately.
You can find it in any supermarket, Walmart, etc.
Try it.

I use Bon-Ami. You can get at the grocery store for 79 cents. After you clean your exhaust tips you can clean the hull and then the interior. The stuff works great, its non abrasive and very inexpensive.

Why is it just my tips? None of my other stainless gets like that. Is it because my tips get hot after a hard run and then go into the cold water? Just curious.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Blackhawk, you're correct with your thoughts. It's the heat in the tips which isolates the cloudiness(deposits) to the tips alone and not the rest of your stainless. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind the minerals(lime, salt, etc).

It's like making sugar chrystals...Water evaporates, and all the disolved soluables precipitate.

Lime Away works great. Will not scratch or harm the paint if it gets on the drives.
