I only have the 33 zx but love every thing about it from the cabin, to the speed and also the ride has every thing we want and need. I don't think I will get any thing else but a zx as long as we weekend on it every week. I would say go for the zx

dont get me wrong about the handling in rough water, you'll be fine in pretty much anything you'd care to venture out in, just dont expect to be first at the card stop in snotty s hit  run this thing to hard in Erie washing machine chop and your gonna be busy with the screwdriver when ya get where yer go'in :D
It really is a tough choice but i am a big Donzi fan (even though i whine about a few things . . . ok a lot of things lol) I always thought of it as a gentlemans offshore boat. It really has that look that kinda sets it out and that will never get old. Hell on that thought maybe they didnt make the cabin for sleep'in in, most of the owners stay in the Club :D and yes . . . it always drew a crowd. I was out by myself one friday and stopped by one of the usual watering holes and as i was bringing it up to the wall i could see this girl turn her head and just start drifting toward where i was bringing the boat up to. I could see she was with a guy and she just turned her attention and was like a fly to a light bulb. was sorta funny cuz i could almost see him go "fuk" and just follow along. I tied the boat mid ship real quick and had to duck in the cabin to grab fenders and as i was coming out of the cabin she just arrived at the boat i heard her say "damn . . . its SO BIG" kinda loud and i just had to laugh. I said something to her i dont remember what but it was funny. Struck up a quick small talk something er other and a few laughs but i saw the dude was getting deflated so i threw him a rope and brought him in on the chat. Didnt wanna crush the dude but it woulda been easy, hell i probably would'a done him a favor :D . |
If you're planning on dragging either around the country every year as stated in the first post, I would opt for the smaller Donzi. A 38 isn't too bad for trailering, but a 43 BT would get old if you're doing a few major road trips with it every year.
I'll agree with the others, the donzi is also more attractive, but the added size on the water can't be discounted if you're going to spend a lot of time in rough conditions or spend a lot of overnights on it. |
for what its worth. I did the KW poker run this year on Wednesday with a 38zx. Several boats backed out because the last 40 miles was on the Atlantic side with 5 to 7 ft wave per NWS. First time I ever ran in ocean. Always LOTO. The boat was solid and went right through it. Night and day difference in ride between 38 Special. I didn't get crazy with it. Average around 55 mph. Not one screw loose after that. Impressed me.

I'm going to go look at both Super Bowl Weekend. I haven't really laid up in the birth of a Donzi but it has to be better then my 311. At least head room wise. My GF doesn't like the whole coffin feel when she sleeps and the Donzi has that big window up at the top plus it looks like you can maybe sit up and not hit your head. The BT you can jump on the bed and not hit your head. She had to sleep sideways on the Formula facing the cabin and I had to sleep behind her:evilb: which was even shorter span and I'm taller. So it wasn't exactly enjoyable not to mention I would have to climb over her to use the head, which was a one leg kneeled in and the other one out holding me up. If we can both lay in the Donzi comfortably then that will probably be my route. I really like the BTs but not sure I will like towing and docking that beast. But we'll see. I'm sure as with my 311, I will eventually get use to it either way.

I just looked at what i belive to be the two your going to c, the BT is pretty baddazz, but I think the Donzi is a way better looking boat, IMO

Here's the BT
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/19...-SC-101946690# Here's then ZX http://boats.smartcarguide.com/listing/41749149/ Just looked at both 2 days ago. After seeing the BT I was sold, but then I saw the ZX and was like that is one sexy boat, it looked like it just came off the assembly line. Love both boats, gf wants the BT, I would like to go with the ZX because I think the size in more manageable towing and around the docks. Both have good headroom down below but the BT is so much more roomy all over and up in the v berth, plus it has genny and full camper enclosure. The Donzi has 500efis where the BT only has 502 MPIs. I'm really up in the air here. |

If the gf wants to go halfsies on the BT then I`d go that route for sure :D
I can tell you I`m not real thrilled to be towing my heavy old boat around(17, 000 including trailer) I don`t know if its the length or weight but for a while there I was like what the hell did I get myself into. Id go with the lighter boat |
