Thinking about buying 96 382sr1 what's it worth

I have a friend selling his 96 382 sr1 and aluminum trailer it has twin 500s carbureted decent boat one motor won't start because ignition problem mechanic said part is 800 also needs prop on one side its vibrating he said he hit a rock with it I have a 26 ft baja now not sure I want a boat that big. Also what kind of top speed am I looking at thanks

t500hps 01-26-2014 09:53 AM

I'll take a stab at it........

65-68 mph and worth about $35-45K as it sits.

this 40 is for sale and in good shape for about 20g's

lightning99 01-26-2014 11:16 AM

Well I went and looked at it needs a little interior work the graphics are ugly and teal and painted on and starting to flake off and it's a steel road runner trailer not aluminum so now what are ya thinking

glassdave 01-26-2014 01:31 PM

with unknown engine/drive issues (regardless of who diagnosed them you have to treat them as unknown) i wouldn't go much more then 15 or 20K. at the most.

and i agree 65-68mph . . .

Which 500's? Merc blue motors?

t500hps 01-26-2014 01:34 PM

Based on your revised description I'd agree with glassdave at $15-20K

ratman 01-26-2014 02:53 PM

an 800 dollar ignition part? wtf

who made those 500s will make a pretty big difference on its value

lightning99 01-26-2014 02:57 PM

Ok got more info he said it's the distributer 400 and the mechanic said the other is gonna need to be replaced before long the prop has a little bit on one of the tips that is bent a little the owners a good friend of mine so it's not a random seller

glassdave 01-26-2014 02:59 PM

lightning99 01-26-2014 03:03 PM

Are they blue or black? makes a big difference here, if they are original blue motors they are from Merc Racing (generally). You need to be paid member to post pics straight to the forum otherwise you have to host them or email them to someone that can post them. If you want you can send them to davesikorski(at)sbcglobal(dot)net and i can post them for you.

Hopper 01-26-2014 05:21 PM

or ask Kidapache..... he can post without a paid membership LMFAO...... He would probably want about 60K for something like that

lightning99 01-26-2014 05:49 PM

Blue mercury racing

I would say with the blue motors, needing some work it still would be a good buy for around 25-30k. I have that same boat with 540cui 625hp motors runs around 75 on gps, the good bad and the ugly. its heavy mine is around 13k on the trailer u need a good rig to pull it, the ride is decent best speed comes in around 2 foot waves its good up to about 5 then it starts to beat you up a little. its is a great weekend boat mine has a/c and a full camper top love spending weekeds at put in bay on it.

slickwilly382 01-27-2014 08:48 AM

just looked at the ticket form the scale at the truck stop 13889 lbs "I have an alum I beam trailer" thats with gear and fuel.

lightning99 01-27-2014 12:02 PM

I think I'm gonna stay with my 26 baja I have a house at the lake so I don't need much cuddly area and the cockpit isn't much bigger than my 26 and that's where we will be
