1. Just like "inflation" and the 171 speed record - shouldnt this be more like 180 MPH to win due to advancements in materials and technology? 172 MPH might beat the record, but did it really break the RECORD.

Not really, a four minute mile, is still a four minute mile; in 1954 or 2014.

47' with 1450hp. unless I`m looking at the wrong info:

In setting the new mark, the 47-footer, which was powered by twin 1,450 supercharged engines, escalated what has become a full-scale battle between Outerlimits and Fountain Powerboats for V-bottom top-speed supremacy. Less than two weeks earlier, a Fountain had averaged more than a 157 mph in kilo runs on the Pamlico River in Washington, N.C. The Fountain record beat the existing mark, set by another Outerlimits model, by more than 7 mph.
Longways:

Sorry AT man but length=weight=running surface. 27-29 ' fountain in your example is not quite 4' difference .
One has a bustle the other a beak so its all a wash.

Not anymore!

2014 post of the year right here:

We might as well just send Crossett the T-shirt now so he can enjoy it all season. :drink:

Yea, there's always a hater in the bunch. I feel bad for people like that. I think no mater who is trying to break the record , its pretty cool. I wish more manufacturers would do new stuff. Its a sh!tty market still and a lot of them are struggling. So when one tries something new, they are all watching and it brings up the industry as a whole.
When I post to this site i always picture my kids reading it. So when were busting each other it should never get personal or that sh!tty its usually about the boats. But there is always someone who has to act like they are writing on a bathroom wall.

I also think it's great they are going after it. I just think it's odd that it took them so long, since they have been SAYING they could for 10 years. :party-smiley-004:

Sorry. I thought they said 1500 sterlings. But like the other post said, who cares, there isn't any rules.

Kudos to OL. The performance boat industry needs some excitement!

Best of luck

Mastercraft240 02-09-2014 12:22 PM

Just some facts to throw out here.

1. As someone already mentioned, no one knows if those 1550hp motors in the fountain were actually 1550's. OL is doing this would STOCK 1650 Mercury motors, no guessing games on what they're "actually running".
2. The fountain was purpose built vs. Outerlimits PRODUCTION 43sv.
3. When Reggie broke the record, was that "corrected for technological advancement". Laughable statement.
4. Most importantly, haters will be haters!!
