Shooters has a new owner and has re-opened........

Sadly it didn't mention any bikini contests! For those that were following the story, it went into foreclosure, then the bank was trying to sell it for like 10-12mm and then they were going to auction it..........finally sold for 6.9mm.

Fort Lauderdale's Shooters Waterfront is back in business after having its walls, floors, bars and kitchen torn down for a complete makeover seeking to revitalize the landmark restaurant.

Shooters Waterfront — formerly Shooters Waterfront Café — and what used to be a bar next door popular among Spring Breakers, Bootlegger, have retired their previous personas and taken on new, classier styles.

The waterfront restaurant reopened for dinner Monday welcoming guests for the first time following months-long renovations under new ownership. Bootlegger, now a private events venue called Events by Grateful Palate, reopened in December. Operators say they're booking four to five events per week at the facility, ranging from corporate events to birthday parties.

Many of Monday's visitors had been to Shooters at least once before. The restaurant has been around for more than 30 years. Silvya St-Cyr and her husband, Phil, first visited in the 1980s.

"This is much better than before," said Silvya St-Cyr, 63. "It's beautiful, elegant."

Once they started to let the Sunsation,s dock, the place went down hill. It is what led to their demise.

Hey at least they got to the dock, every time a Cig turned to go to the dock the passengers had to swim the rest of the way! :D Shooters had "sea tow" on speed dial......."Yeah, another Cig tried to come to the dock and we got a bobber!" :evilb:

I was in Lauderdale over the Holidays as well for a long weekend in January, both trips went by the construction going on at Shooters, place looked great and it was coming together... We went to BoKampers which is literally next door (other side of bridge) place was huge supposedly holds 800 plus people. My question is will these restaurants be able to produce the volume needed to keep the doors open, there are a few other restaurants in the one block radius as well. Only time will tell.....

I will be boating next week in Lauderdale doing a shake down on the boat before the poker run, may swing in for lunch if we find ourselves that far up the ditch!!

No.....

6.9mm purchase price + remodel costs + 200k a year in property taxes/insurance is a huge nut to pay by serving $12-20 meals.....my guess is they run it for the season as is, then re-invent themselves for next season. But the bikini contest days are over either way!

Greatguy66 02-11-2014 09:03 AM

Nice get the bikini contest photos up ASAP!

They still have them at Gators and Sheppards over here. Tell them to get their act together.

Bokampers is the place.

An "upscale" Shooters will do crap to draw a crowd into that part of Ft. Lauderdale. And, if the Bootleggers part is now an "event" spot, how much do you think they will want loud, obnoxious boats pulling up all day on weekends?

Bokampers has the fun crowd, menu and ambiance to draw and hold the business. It's also one of the world's largest sports restaurants. I took FlightClub there last week and he was impressed and he KNOWS clubs and restaurants as well as anyone. Also has more dockage available.

offshore312 02-11-2014 10:26 AM

So when will FlightClub be purchasing one of those venues, or perhaps opening one in the area? :evilb:

Magic Medicine 02-11-2014 11:40 AM

I miss the old days of Lucky Strike 2 doing the floating reporter from shooters!!!!

J-Bonz 02-11-2014 11:53 AM

Hah, I was thinking of the exact same thing!

Ive not been to either place yet, but it "sounds" like they are going after different patrons/crowds, the wealthier / more affluent patron versus the average or typical sports bar patron.

Well, on the whole that is possible, but that area isn't close to Las Olas or the Galleria areas that draw the money. Also, Bokampers does a very diverse food and drink menu. They even have a 12 seat glass sushi bar smack in the middle with seats inside and patio side.

Will definitely be interesting to see if Shooters can draw well on name for starters.

I do hope they both make it, only 300 yard idle to change parties. :daz:

Well I stopped in at Shooters tonight, and the did a nice job redoing the place over, but guys I don't think you will see any bikini contest anytime, they went more upscale. We didn't stay for a drink Just was not the old place I new.

WARPARTY36 02-12-2014 07:55 AM

Just make sure to stay away from Flip Flops north of Shooters. We stopped in there during the Lauderdale show because I forgot that Shooters was closed. They could at least put rainbow flags out front so people know what they are getting themselves into.:gfight:

Wow....where to start?

Shooters, Bootleggers, Aunt Charlie's......all part of my DNA.

I even tried to impress a skank (or 2) with the quasi- uppity joint next door (1 property south) before skanks don't matter.....enough to impress....

Aunt Charlie's was great for a beer (or 10) for lunch along with calamari during the week.....

But if the seas weren't stupid requiring a weekend in the Bahamas, I was all weekend dockside at Shooters.....usually first or second to tha wood with 8-10 past me.

Aside from athletes foot and a broken ankle from a douche trying to dock his Trojan with no experience on the end of the cruiser raft north end....via schrapnel fiberglass.....I have nothing but the fondest of memories for my tutelage gained there courtesy of my weekend excursions.

The bikini contests were a paramount inclusion.

From a money-making position, it seems as though the new owners want the fame of the name, but wish to reinvent the fortune. The fortune is in the bar....not the kitchen.

Smokers, more than any other casual drinker, DRINK. Eaters, regardless of the quality of food, eat....and drink....get full....and leave.

Shooters has the luxury of being an outdoor (not completely) venue, so the Fl. Clean Air Act does not apply.

Old shooters had the luxury of being and outdoor venue for boaters....some smoke and drink, others drink.....but both watched. Smoke or not, I'm having a jack and coke until the bikinis leave....no interest in a sword fight....I'm not French.

Nice as you like, or old shooters decor, food.......drink......and azz within a few feet of your boat....smoker or not...it is a magical formula for success like no other.

Add in the clientele the venue screams for.....20-30-40 and on something's with a boat? We all know, as passionate as we are about our disease, we have expendable income......albeit not always prudent, but happy to spend. Shooters is the playground of the rich and the wannabes.

If I want fine dinning on the water....I'll go to Yesterday's and hang out for a while in the plum room doin blow.....

Nevermind.....they went out of business too.....and then I lost a lot of customers...

otis311 02-17-2014 08:13 PM

LS had that on his FB page because it was his momma that got shot. Meta was hit with bullet fragments.
