1st boat, A former rent a boat, called jet-away. Some sort of 19 ft. glass boat with a 302 ford and a jet drive circa 1973, went about 50 mph. Used that sucker for everything . Including shrimping in Lake Pontchartrain. Sunk it while shrimping by second big hump. I imagine it is still there under about 10 ft. of mud. :D

I was fourteen, it was a 1963 Larson with an Evirude 35hp outboard.I bought it full of water and leaves for 50.00. It weighted so much with the water in it the axles on the trailer were bent but I cleaned it all up and drove it for 3 more years. I lent it to a Friend and forgot to put the plug back in and he sunk it in Wolf lake.

Addition,

I use to keep my boats at Red Eye Dock Bar. But last year I moved to the potmac river and now have a lift there. I still go to Red Eyes 3-4 times a year. I do some poker runs as well....

Wow, back in the EARLY 70's (71-72), I thought boats were made for duck hunters that did'nt have retriever dogs. Had a old wooden 18ft john boat with a 10 hp merc for duck hunting.
In the mid 70's, I always wanted a 1977 Slickcraft sx 176, wife said NO! We don't need no boat! 1981, got rid of the wife and went lookin for that Slickcraft. Bought a 1975 Wreight 18ft Maverick berkely jet boat with a 454. Did some tweaking on a stock boat( pump work, refresh eng. solid cam, Bassett headers, tunnel ram & dominators), raced all the amature classes in the area & won. Boat ran 89 on radar.
Went partners with a friend on his 19ft Youngblood tunnel hull jet, (my power, his hull) and dominated the midwest circuit in single carb jet class, and always placed 2nd or 3rd in multicarb when we jumped up a class back in 83,84, and 85. Boat ran 102.
85, built a pr of 468 bb engs for my friends 82, SS 28 Cigarette. Boat ran 78, and that's the one that set the hook! After 1 summer of runnin that Cig on lake Michigan, I sold the jets, and bought a Cigarette.
Present boat, 1989 10meter Fountain, best speed to date: 116-117. Currently refreshing complete powertrain.

Re: OK members: What was your first boat?

10 foot aluminum skiff with an old ( brown ) Johnson 18 . . . 5 or 6 years old.
12 foot Amesbury skiff with the same Johnson . . . 6 - 10
13 Whaler - started with a Johnson 33, it would outrun Evinrude 40's for some reason. Tried a Homelite 55, didn't work because of the long shaft. Ended up with Evinrude 60.
12 foot Hydrofoil/tunnel hull with Johnson 50 and joystick steering.
16 foot Grady White with Johnson 115. My brother caught a 470lb tuna in that boat. It was never the same ( windshield GONE, running on two cylinders from towing the fish home ).
19 SeaCraft CC with Johnson 120. . . . great blue-water hull. I prayed at night for small-craft warnings.

Right now, Fountain 32 Fever. . . . lookin at movin on up. Most likely Sutphen. OR - I'm really liking the Powerplay. May even go Concept cause I love the versatility of a CC- type boat. BUT an older ( non-step ) Fountain 38-42 stagger semi-PR type with 525's and Konrads would be PERFECT for those Catalina runs ( regardless of time of day - or time of year ). . . OR - - - Activator/Phantom for single-engine, no friends kinda fun.
