i have known steve and mark for about 4 years. steve was one of the most knowledgeable and personable boat manufacturers that i have met. his death is such a tragedy and i will miss our frequent phone conversations. i own RPM 26 Redline hull number 12 and have had it for 2 years. it is the best handling and performing 26 ft single engine cat that i have experienced. previously, i had a DCB mach 26 and 2 eliminator cats. the RPM turns, slows down and has about a 10% higher speed with the same horsepower as my other cats.
i had ridden with steve in the boat that crashed on the Coosa river as his demo boat and again twice when my boat was ready. he knew his hull and the river near his shop very well. i can only believe that driver error was not the cause. maybe good judgement in pushing his boat so fast in less than ideal conditions, but not any reasonable thing that a driver could have avoided.
it is, for me, a very sorrowful way to say goodbye to steve and RPM boats. he was a one of a kind innovator, builder, and friend.
may god bless his soul and his family.
