Brodix plus 2 apba supercat heads
Hello all. Last year I bought a used Ilmor "supercat" 509 engine for my pantera 24-7 project.
It came with the apba "spec" brodix plus 2 heads. I'm de-tuning the engine to run on pump gas. Over the last month we took the heads and intake off and started to work on them. Got rid of the titanium intake valves and replaced them with Manley stainless. Had a complete port and polish and a good valve job done. Got a call from my friend who is the machinist with some flow numbers. 396 on the intake and 315 on the exhaust at .700 lift! I'm pretty happy with those numbers! Thought I'd share. |
That's tall #'s for those heads. Are they as cast or ported a lot?

I think you missed something WeaponX. |
Just a light bowl clean and blend. No need to re-invent the wheel on these castings as they have good architecture to begin with.
|
The heads should be fine, but there appears to be an error in the flow #'s. Did you measure the runner volumes?
|
I believe the intake runner volume started life at 312cc. Probably right around 320 with the work.
Out of the box, the heads flow somewhere in the mid 300 range. Not sure why the high 300's seems wrong with a good port job and a 2.30 intake valve. |
With the lower compression for pump gas, just how big a cam are you planning on running? Good flow at .700 though.
|
I'm planning on working with bob madera for a cam. Most likely, 240ish at .050, high 600 lift.
Boat will have dry exhaust and is 517CU. I'm not sure what he will spec for lobe separation as the exhaust is dry. I'll post the flow numbers at all lifts when I pick them up from the machinist. He gave me the numbers at .700 lift over the phone. He did say they flowed really well at the low to mid lift numbers. |
