Phantom boats?
I own a 1980 Phantom. The model is a 30 Ghost and I was wondering if anyone could lead me to some information or history of the company and boat. All I know is that it came from Florida and was purchased in a D.E.A. auction. It has TRS drives and Merc trannies. It also has a 600 gallon fuel tank and lots of cargo room. I am in the process of building new engines and refurbishing it and was just curious about it's history. I don't know if there is any connection with the current Phantom company but any information or leads would be appreciated.

Thanks Steve, hopefully this works: http://arizonahotboats.com/projects/phantom1.jpg
If it doesn't, it can also be seen on arizonahotboats.com under the projects area on the main page. There are a lot more pics of it in various stages. I am actually making more changes as I go along and get new ideas. Thank you, Jim |
Jim what are the first 3 letters of the HIN !
:) |
Nice looking baot. 600 gallon tanks..... do you think it ran drugs???? :D:D The stories that they can tell :D:D
Jon |
Steve, the first three letters are PHU. Thanks Jon. I did here at one time from someone that they saw another one of these hulls in a boat yard full of bullet holes, but that is here say. Sounds interesting though.

Lets see............600 gals fuel, lotsa cargo room, purchased
from DEA......hmmmmmmm I bet that boat could tell some tales !!!!!! |
I am probably wrong but it looks like a CBBRA/POWERPLAY in 1980 PP wasn't around yet.
|
600 gal gas tank? Let's see gas weights = approx 6 lbs per gallon, so 600 gal x 6 lb/gal = 3600 lbs   I guess that's why he got caught , maybe??

PHU
PHANTOM BROTHERS INC 4450 NW 72ND AVE MIAMI FL Check the Windscreen is it bolted on ? if it is then Ryan is close, that is a very good rough water Boat you have there. :) |
Too Old I was looking at the side profile that’s why I asked for the last test ! Todays Powerplay ! Very Nice and well done :)

to see more pictures of the Phantom. Yes, the windscreen is bolted on. I worked on this boat prior to Jim (Jr.) and can tell you that the bottom is very straight and it runs good. Believe it or not, this boat didn't have full length stringers. That was one of the first things we did...install stringers and a new floor. Our first test run with very mild rebuilt 454's netted us 60mph. Since then, Jim Jr. has put in alot time to rebuild the engines (better) and redo alot of the upholestery. Look at all of the pictures on our projects page. |
I can't place the deck with a current name ! 30' could be a lot of hulls all from the orginal 28 magnum !
|
Thanks LakeRacer:) It does resemble the Powerplays, but the title of the boat actually show the manufacterer as Phantom Boats Inc. It also has a manufacturer plaque in the boat at the helm that reads Phantom Boats Inc.. To date, the most fuel I have put on board is 120 gallons and the boat sat level. I can't even imagine filling it up. Maybe the extra cargo balanced it out:rolleyes: I have not had it on the ocean yet, but I have not found to much lake water here in Arizona that affects it. It's a nice smooth ride. Poker runs are a blast in it!!
