I'd love to find a Blackhawk for my Sweet 16, but they are pretty rare and often too $ for what they are.

I liked the Blackhawk when it came out, with dual prop for the single engine boats which is good engineering. What about this drive too? I know very little about it but seems provide the same function, low X dimension, dual props, not sure of the cost of this surface drive, the Weisman Hammerhead. I have always liked the engineering in the Weisman products, and the notion of creating new products, and the same can be said for the Blackhawk becasue when it came into the marketplace it was different, innovative, I like new ideas or existing ideas that have been re-engineered to work well.

the blackhawk has a High X, according to Merc it need to be a minimum 2.5 inches above a standard bravo.
My brain had me wanting to say say a low center of gravity for engine placement due to the higher X-Dimension that was possible, sometimes the words in my brain come faster than my typing ability....not a low X-Dimension....that is just plain stupid on my behalf....at least it is a typo on something that is not critical in someone's life, but when I have typo on a motion or brief and don't catch it, than there is hell to pay. I need to hire you for my proofreader, you do an excellent job! |
All that stuff Mercury put in that guide and they could have just said the bottom of the bullet needs to be no lower than the bottom of the hull. mercurys standard recommendation places the prop 8.25 deep the drive is 8.25 shorter than a Bravo, plus they want the X dimension 2.5 higher, The bullet has a 5" diameter so half is 2.5".
Btw an aeration tubes (like ones some run on some #6 and arneson drives) many times solve most of the issues associated with this drive. Helps plane off time, slows Idles speed, takes load off of the shifts, takes load off the drive when in the rough, when suddenly the props are monetarily submerged. When the props are surfacing the tube is just along for the ride but when tops of the blades are below the surface it allows props to pull air and across them and reduce load, and keep slip numbers more consistent. (when on plane/props surfacing they tend to have high slip numbers, but when submerged the are extremely low, this the root cause of alot of the issues.) |
I had seen a few builds before where the tubes were added like that.

Can a guy get 31p props for the Blackhawk?
|
Some boats benefit from two different pitches. Run two different pitch props.

That's awesome. How much are those and how much HP are they rated for?
