The last time I paid for a rebuild it was $7500. Dropped the boat off, picked it up and put it in the water. Full top end w/all new valves and springs, all new pistons, bores, rings bearings, cam, lifters. Dorr's Marine Engines in Windham Maine. 100% perfect, not even one hose clamp that could have been tighter. Tim Dorr is a Mercury certified service center, 25 yrs in business.

Kurt, I had same work done on 454sc .Plus pushrods, guide plates, fuel pump, oil pump, water pump, timing chain, starter, flywheel gear, and spark plugs. Total for engine build was just over $4500.00 I removed and installed engine myself.:boat:

i have receipts for a rebuild on both engines from the old owner on my fountain 2x454s and it cost almost 15 grand.

But I would imagine if you could get the enignes out and put back in yourself youd probably save your self a few bucks. Plus if you take them out yourself, I would think an engine is an engine and any descent engine builder could do it vs finding a marine guy

Just in the countdown is on for Mike's latest **** storm!
This is going to turn into a marine versus automotive and why not do it yourself lol
I've quoted some builds lately, and anyone doing all that for $4500 is not making ANY money. Not knocking them at all. That's great that you got a deal that good but decent parts add up to your total build cost.
