Hull rot/wetness/osmosis

whatever you may call it it is a perpetual problem with second hand buyers…
but what actually causes it?
being left in water?
the boat having not seawater e.g. rainwater in constant contact with the transom/stringers??

I've heard a number of theories- all the way from the outdrive not being properly sealed, screws in the transom not seated, rain water, bilge water left in to sit. I don't think there is one good answer. I can tell you this much - that is one of the reasons why we looked only at a Cobalt-- except for the instrument and radio mounts EVERYTHING else is composite - will never rot.

Water intrusion. Any water in any fashion. If any wood is exposed in any portion of the boat. It will rot. If it isn't full encapsulated and every single screw and bolt hole sealed properly, it will rot.
