Was the Fountain sold sans power ? Could it be the talent in the cockpit making the OL so far ahead of the pack ? Wasn't there rules at one time that added weight to boats with additional steps? Did that go away now ? I thought that was part of what held back a couple other boats from coming on the scene as quickly as they could ? All I see in the sbi rule book now is 4750 lbs.

In SBI any penalty is a time penalty, therefore SBI's own scoring system encourages you to win by as much time as you can. That's why in every class you never see the leader holding back to put on a "show" because to us it is a race not a "show". If SBI wants to pay teams to put on their show I'm sure they could find plenty in the fleet who would be happy to do so, but not the teams that come to win. The winnings from a race don't cover 1/10 th of the cost, the only reward is the WIN not another wood plaque and checker flag. The Snowy Mountain Brewery Team goes to every race prepared to win with a boat, two motors, three drives, 15 props, that all meet the SBI rules TO THE LETTER.

Dan,What might be a way to shut everyone up would be to let another team use your spare motor. Better yet have them both in the back of the truck and let someone else pick the one they want to borrow and you install the other one in yours. it only take's about 2-3 hours at best to install at the race. Go out and whip them and no one should say anything after that.

The winnings from a well populated race with a large boat count may cover 1/10th the cost and then some for other teams. You can't make that as a blanket statement. That is why some people get frazzled when they see what many believe to be a jumped start. That doesn't matter if the boat and team has everything on the planet and meet the sbi rules, it is a racing infraction. I don't doubt for one minute the boat is a bad ass, I just wish it could be shown as a bad ass without any controversy. I also don't think that 250 lbs will kill this boat, I wonder how much fuel the boat has capacity for, and how they usually run it. I would assume its allready been tested with that kind of weight, and will not hinder it much if any.

It was originally " Hogs Breath " has also raced as Mountain dew, and more recently as Bounty Hunter, I actually raced against it in 2007 in St.Clair. Just so happened it came for sale in near by St. Louis area. So I was able to get it. Its super cool, and a fellow in the northeast had put in a new transom and fuel tank, before the guy in St.Louis bought it. It just needs love. I have only had an aluminum dash made and started working on an engine hatch, and have since transferred my efforts into a real rotten 22 velocity to go w an outboard in Class 7. For now thats all i may be able to afford. I will get back on the corsa later.

Doesnt matter if your the best their ever was or will be, once you put on that scarlet letter, no body is ever gonna believe you won it on talent alone.

If the class minimum is 4,750 lbs (now 5,000 lbs for the OL), does anyone how how much weight they were having to add to the boat to meet the 4,750 min weight?

Being a carbon epoxy layup (I'm assuming), I would think that OL weighs a lot less than the competition to begin with. Not only is the bottom design slick as ****, the hull is probably more rigid as well, and being able to add the required weight exactly where you want it is a very nice problem to have.

Having to meet a higher min weight requirement than everyone else because you're boat and crew is too good just goes to show there are plenty of issues in SBI. Regardless, I don't think adding an additional 250 will handicap SMB enough to alter the outcome on the podium.
