Not really, we ran 103mph with lots left on the table. ( Pump gas, no blower, no nitros.. just a regular motor)

You've missed the point, Trick Rick.

Is that with the SBI spec motor or the stock merc. 525 ? IMO the SBI motor should do 103-108 if a stock 525 merc does 100 MPH. Either way we will NEVER know the details.
Congrats on the big VEE record. That is amazing and my hats off to them.

Aqua Banshee what exactly is your journalistic expertise to take a cheap shot at one of the most respected journalists in our sport, Matt Trulio?

It wasn't real hard. Matt writes this story about how the SMB boat breaks the SV record. Ok SV is SBI, but APBA sactioned it? So Matt didn't research it I guess. I would think he would know the difference. Than Matt states that the SMB boat broke the prevous SVL record recorded by APBA. So now we beat a record of another class? Just add to it the controversy the side stepping of OPA. Opps. And why do I call out Matt. Matt is always the first to report the controversy of SV/SVL, but has failed to report about the team with the Aluminum flywheel, the hot box at Biloxi, the motor swap at Key west, just last week the jump start, and the Data logger chip that disappeaed.

So tell me where I am wrong? Journalist or Amanuensis

The only way to explain it is that Mr, Trulio might be in love with Professor Fate. Or stopped by the Smokey Mountain Bakery and is a democrat.

Matt Trulio is a fantastic journalist. Your logic is way, way off. And beyond that, he is one of the few guys left reporting on the sport we all love. Anyone doing their best to spread the news about something I'm passionate about, is ok with me. You really think Outerlimits told him it was something other than a 525? Doubt it. It isnt his job to climb in the bilge and disassemble an engine.

Very impressive numbers (no matter what engine), congrats to Outerlimits!

Holy bouncing boats Batman!!!! Im not a racer (though I do want to try my hand at it someday), Im not currently affiliated with any organization, just a fan for several years of offshore racing.

SVL seemed really cool a few years ago. A bunch of teams in boats limited by common rules, not gps, going head to head and battling it out. From a fans perspective, what the hell happened??? It seems from the outside like nobody can agree on anything, you have broke into two factions decreasing the head to head competition. And then there is this team that seems to make it up as they go along. Aluminum flywheels, not having a clue where the first turn is, buzzing docks, bypassing inspection, setting a class kilo record, oh wait, they forgot they were in the wrong svl so that doesnt count so lets call it the special modified svl record. This leaves the fan wondering can one just stick a 1075 in a batboat. go 120 and claim the new svl modified kilo record??

Outerlimits raised the bar today, 180 if flat out hauling in a vee and they made it look like a walk in the park on the video I saw. Mike and crew should rightfully be standing a couple inches taller today raising it by 10 mph. When you get moving like that its a hard fought battle for every single mph. Its a shame their day in the sun seems tarnished by the black cloud of controversy that seems to perpetually follow a certain team.

As for people blasting Matt.... Hey was duped by the smoke and mirrors generated by a team that has mastered illusion and deception better than Sigfried and Roy. I doubt he is going to let that happen again.

I would like to ad that after reading Reggie's words about today, total class!

I still believe its what must be done to unify the sport. If APBA can not provide documentation on tec and raising the bar from where it has been for the last few years then there is a issue that must be addressed. Don't trash it just yet. Evaluate if it can be fixed going forward or is it just a money making idea that will not live up to the expectations. It works both ways guys. We would all need to step up !!

Randy,

The Regions have always been established. As pointed out by Trent they were the Regions included for exclusivity to OPA.

Now there are inquiries as to why APBA went around the OPA Racing organization after making a deal in February 2014 in regards that OPA would be the hosting organization for APBA Offshore Races, Kilo Run Records, Time Trials, Special Events etc. east of the Mississippi except for Florida being a neutral state.

Most likely won't change any outcome on the event besides the SVL Record claim and OPA may withdraw from the agreement that was made with APBA in February 2014.

Oddly enough, the APBA Special Events Reference Book was dated 2/12/14 just 4 days after the OPA Awards Banquet where the unification was announced.

Joe & Brian's run was impressive to say the least.

As far as the 30 footer breaking the SVL record is concerned, I think that will be debated if not given a different category...

I look forward to reading Speed on the Water.com tomorrow to hear the rest of the story from the APBA ....
