Hey Matt who was that guy that prepared, and organized for the kilo run? I forgot, but I think you wrote a story about it. Maybe APBA will send him a free copy of there book with the rules in it. The APBA guys might need a refresher course also.

We suggested that APBA avoid using names that include the words SUPER and LITE. We suggested they call it class 5a and 5b or 29' Outerlimits with Canopy Class.
IMO (for what it's worth) the prefix should begin with "SPECIAL EVENT" then "the type of class boat" other than anything sounding the same as an existing APBA /OPA CLASS. Call it what it was , a SPECIAL EVENT. |
Svl?

I feel bad for Outerlimits factory. They spent a ton of there own money set up this event to showcase there big WORLD speed record in a Vee bottom. They have been working on this for years and after 10 years of BS on the internet they shatter the record by 10 MPH. THAT IS THE NEWS THAT SHOULD BE ALL OVER THE WEB PAGES. Instead we have as many people watching this thread about a smoke and mirror record that has over shadowed what should be a historical event.

It always amazes me how far people can dig to try and belittle or discredit someone, or in this case, outerlimits, and Matt. Maybe the complainers should take a look around and they just might see there is hardly anyone even reporting on powerboats anymore. It sure would be nice to get a powerboat or hot boat magazine in the mail but it seems those days are long gone. There are plenty of haters out there and that is fine, the fact is outerlimits crushed the record and probably would have done it years ago had they not been so busy building boats. The bottom line is outerlimits deserves a great big congrats and a tank you to Matt for covering the story. Maybe some of the know It alls on here should start their own blog and others can come on and tear it apart for some minuscule misprint. There is fault to be found in anything and never enough credit where it is due. Once again, thank you Matt and congrats to ol. Btw, congrats on the 150 mph pass on the 52 ft water condo

RULE 1 - SANCTION Any APBA regular member Club may conduct time trials. APBA will not approve a sanction for a time trial for a single boat. Should there be a request for a single class time trial, sanction would be granted provided that all the rules governing time trials are adhered to. A race circular advertising the trial as open to all registered boats in that class, must be circulated. The Event Organizer receiving the sanction for a trial shall be responsible for all of the expenses of sanction and conduct of the event. RULE 2 - ELIGIBILITY A. Qualifications - 1. Classes - All APBA Offshore classes are eligible to compete for records at sanctioned Offshore time trials. 2. Riding Crew Members and Boat - The combination of the driver and/or throttleman and the registered boat, as shown on the official entry form, (same serial number of hull that the driver and/or throttleman qualified in) must have competed in at least one Offshore event sanctioned by any recognized sanctioning body within the past 12 months in the same or equivalent class prior to the date of the trial. The driver and throttleman do not have to perform the same functions during the kilo run as they did in the qualifying of the registered boat. The hull must have been registered in accordance with these rules and the qualified driver and/or throttleman must have been full annual members when the qualification race was run. 4. Other Requirements - a. Compliance with Rules - The boat shall undergo a pre-event and post event safety and technical inspection in accordance with the applicable class rules and otherwise comply with all technical and safety specifications as established for any other racing event covered by these rules. Hope this doesn't come into play for the other record. Than again, hang out with community organizers, and this is what happens. |

All,
Thank you for your patience. Per APBA, the designation will be SV Single special event kilo record. I have changed my text to reflect that designation and added a quote from APBA president Mark Wheeler explaining it, as well as changed the headline of the story. I also have asked one of the offshoreonly moderators to change the name in the title of this thread, as I cannot do that because the editing time window has closed. I apologize for my initial error and regret any confusion it may have caused. |
Rules are Rules. There are Official rules , Fountain Rules, and Gold Rules. I am betting on Gold Rules.
|
And now the thread title has been corrected to accurately reflect the class designation. Thank you OSO.
