I live on Lake Murray in Columbia SC. Very powerboat friendly, 5 Marina's and 3-4 good raft up

I don't live there, but a big +1 for Lake Murray. Visited there and will be going back again. Also, if you're a gun guy, Palmetto State Armory is down there. You will be allowed to have stuff the legislators in New York have nightmares about!

Great place, I lived in Mount Pleasant for a couple years (Charleston area). Never been to Lake Murray. A lot of boating in the Charleston Harbor and destination by boat places. Really neat coastline with a healthy boating community. Mostly fishing boats, but a great time. I miss it....
If you have the coin, live on the coast. If you want to live a little more conservatively, Summerville and surrounding areas are nice. I hear Greenville is also a really nice place to live, a recent hot spot for development and transplants. It's a little far from the coast.... |
Thanks for the comments, please keep them coming very interested.

I moved from Long Island just about 8 years ago. I'm in Myrtle Beach. Lots of stuff to do and cheap to live. I'm not retired yet, but I work part time and live pretty good. The boating is mostly fishing type boats. Not much performance boats. North Myrtle beach has an inlet. Other wise you do most of the boating on the "river" which is the icw waterway. There are quite a few boat boat ramps around and get this, they are free! Also free beach access. Check out anyplace from North Myrtle Beach to Murrells Inlet. I don't have a boat anymore, so I don't have a lot of boating info for you. I do know that I haven't regretted our move down here one bit!
