Porsche 997 Turbo in the Grand Sport Class. Car has been "warmed over" a little with Tial turbos, bigger intercoolers, injectors, tune Carrillo rods etc etc. Truth be told its my wifes daily driver and I am stealing it for the weekend.

Keytime 05-15-2014 04:40 PM

Nice! Does the Grand Sport Class have a target speed average?

Your wife is cool. My g/f won't let me take her vette to the track. :P

A good friend of mine in Mesa, AZ has a 2003 911 X50 and I've been trying to talk him into doing it. I should give you his # so you can hound him. lol

Thanks, my wife is way cool and a speed freak like me....She gets to drive the cool cars while I drive a conservative one so my employees don't get too needy....

Yea, class target speed is 150 MPH avg, cannot exceed 165 MPH or disqualified.

996 X50 car is a VERY fast car, with a simple/good tune and exhaust it is close to 500 HP to all 4 wheels.

That's haulin' the mail. Good luck and be safe! Would love to see some pics and/or vid of your run.

His X50 has been warmed over a bit, but I don't know to what extent. It was a Phoenix-area shop that did the work.

Do you know if the Big Red Camaro is gonna be there? Seems like I heard on fb that it was.

I don't know if Big Red will be there or not.

Hopefully your buddy's car was warmed over by Evolution Motorsports in Tempe AZ, they know their Porsche's!

trigger, is that thing on the road yet???

Jupiter Sunsation 05-16-2014 08:01 AM

Seeing the blue painter's tape (aka chip protection) reminds me of my buddy in his new Shelby GT500, had tape all over that car to keep it perfect after a track day. He shows up and there is a fleet of high end cars including a Veyron without a single piece of tape on the cars out pounding laps all day long......he never did that again! :D

OP, have fun and sounds like you have the perfect weapon for the job!

At those speeds the tires become the biggest consideration.

Don Johnson 05-16-2014 09:15 AM

Yup, tires are big deal, especially given it will be 100 degrees this weekend..... I have new Pilot Sports on the car so cannot find a much better rated or performing tire.....I am driving the car to and from, 1000 miles round trip so will be a fun car weekend.

We just put Michelin Pilot sport cups on the viper, great tire except in the rain, (Which doesn't matter, the snake has never seen the rain, snow, only time the top gets put up is when I wash her).
Good luck and have fun.
