Renaming a boat?
 

How many of you rename or name your boat for the first time correctly? By correctly I mean with the champange and offerings to posiden and the brothers of wind?

If you dont make the proper offering. Poseidon gets pissed and does this...

Im about to do this. With champagn and the whole offering to poseiden. Im not very superstitious but im not going to chance it lol.

That's funny. I have heard similar things happening to others. Ours had no name when we bought it. We were the 4th owners but through a series of events got in contact with the original owner and re applied the name he first chose. While it was unnamed one trip to the ramp and never even got it started then the next time it burned up a msd unit a few clicks down the river and had to be towed back. The 3rd trip resulted in a piece of debris blocking the fuel line at the check valve 13 miles out in our bay and limped back. There haven't been any unhappy times since his old name was reapplied.

I want to rename mine, I think it has been renamed in the past. It has been nothing but a headache since I have had her. I think it'll help break the wonderful luck I've been having.

The USS Midway was renamed the USS SAINT LO after repairing and refitting her. 14 days into her first mission as the USS SAINT LO she was sunk in the battle of Lette Gulf. Hmmmmmmm.
I was told by an old Coast Guard skipper that to change the name was bad luck. If you are inclined to do so; you need to haul her out of the water, gather and burn all documents, napkins, match books and break all cups and glasses with her name on it. On the next out going tide send out all ashes and remnants with the boats old name on it. Rename the boat on the hard, christen and launch her on the next incoming tide. Woe to you if there is anything left behind with her old name on it.
If you are not superstitous...next time things run a foul...was it bad luck? or pure coincidence??? Hmmmmm.

that said, boats are always considered female or refered to as 'she'. how would your woman act if you called her by a different name? pay homage, do it right and never tempt fate.

One thing is for certain...if you have a boat, things will go wrong...so even if you do it right...you'll have issues. Hopefully your engine blocks make it through the change though!

That said...I'm scared of buying a named boat.

A boat and it's engine and outdrive is just a thing.

Naming it gives it a personality. You have no choice on what personality it's going to take on. Always a chance it will become a beatch. LOL.
