No matter what he was in police custody. At that point the cop was responsible for his care. He died in his care. The cop should at least be fired and prob jailed for murder. Makes me sick.

FYI - WP went thru exact same training as hi-po, PLUS all the water training on top. Did your hi-po BFF have to swim a mile in full gear, no PFD, in under 10 mins? (Don't quote me on that) WP > HP. Sorry. But now they are all in the same and you got guys that have never driven a boat in their life patrolling the water......

(Lake of the Ozarks) -- Officials with the Missouri State Patrol say they expect their investigation into the death of a 20-year-old Iowa man to take at least two more weeks. Brandon Ellingson had been arrested and was in custody and handcuffed when he either jumped or fell overboard at the Lake of the Ozarks May 31st. Ellingsons life jacket came off and he drowned. The patrol says the findings of that investigation will be sent to the Camden County prosecutors office to determine if there was any criminal negligence on the part of the trooper. |
We all know we like law enforcement when in trouble or hurt!But when they hassle people and disrupt them your opinion changes very fast!I blame the police quotas that force the police to bring $$$?Seems like helping people does not generate revenue so it's being put on the shelf?My 02!How many people were in distress while they were arresting this kid for drinking?????:readinghelp:

Would love to see as a result of this tragedy either A. Two troopers per boat if they insist on cuffing behind the back or B. Cuff in front if one tropper only per boat. At least with the cuffs in front you have the ability to use your arms to help stay afloat.

Greatguy, to play devil's advocate, how many people could have been in distress had the drunk guy hit another boat?
I had the oportunity to speak with a local marine officer here in Pennsylvania about this incident. He was saying the transport guidelines here are very strict on how to secure somebody. Plus, you always have at least two officers on each boat. What he does is have to person put their own life jacket on before they even get onto his patrol boat and make sure it is properly secured. Then, if he has to arrest them, they are cuffed in front. The person is then sat on the front of the boat with the second officer there to keep them from standing up or jumping overboard. With the vest coming off in the Missouri case, it definately looks like some type of negligence occurred. It will be interesting to see to what level it occurred at and if charges would come about. |
So so sad......... life vest should not come off. If its right size and put on right! Bad bad.....:( :(
