PM Ktron. He has significant time in these boats.

Night and day difference, a staggered 42X is a way better riding boat than a 38TS. I have heard that the staggered 39's ride more like a 42X, but can't comment as I have never been in a 39.

Don't do it, I did and ended up putting my 39 back on the trailer immediately after the ride.

39 TG is much better than the 38 in handling and rough water with the big props and the 42X is a bit more stout than the 39 in the rough and runs a little flatter than the 39. All great boats but I feel the biggest separation is between the 38TG Bravo boat and the 39 Big prop boat. 42X/700 boat with the whipple upgrades is prob the best all around setup. My .02 is go for a 39/700 boat or a 42X/700 boat.

How is the 525 38's with the ITS or just Bravo's? That's going to be my next boat.

The 38's are great boats! They are fast with stock 525's, reliable and handle well, but when you get into the 39 and the 42X with the #6 props and full stagger they are in a whole other category.

I'm sure those are just out of my budget. Starting to see some nice 38's/525's in my price range.

85-88mph I would think?

42x is a much deeper boat than a top gun. I looked hard at both 39 and 42. From the cockpit floor to the top of the brow it's almost 5" taller. Door is also taller making it easier to get in and out of the cabin. Back seat is almost 8 " taller. Much more freeboard in the rear of a 42. The 42 cockpit is smaller than the top gun. Engine room is huge. Almost makes the 700s look small in there but very nice for working on things. Can't go wrong with either one. The biggest problem is that there is almost nothing on the market now.
