Who do you contact for a light inop on a channel marker?
I searched pretty good online and came up with several numbers that were disconnected or gave a fast busy signal. Called a person in Norfolk and got a voice mail. Why is this so difficult? There was a death last weekend that is being blamed on an defective channel marker light. Wether or not that was the case, I know of one somewhere else that is not working.
It is in Virginia waters if that makes a difference. |
Its the coast guard, and they have been called and told.
They were out there on sunday and im hoping they fixed BOTH of the ones that were out, but I haven't been out yet. Non working channel markers and not using any kind of light/spotlight is NO GOOD...RIP to that guy. |
Potomac River Joe? If so, that's probably Maryland water.

http://www.doit.state.md.us/phoneboo...=DNR&offset=15 Pretty interesting I did find this. http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/light...tList%20V2.pdf Scroll to page 188 and it is labled Marker # 17010 and that the light is removed Dec 1 - Mar 1. Why???? There is a sometimes submerged riprap breakwall that extends from land out to this marker. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps3f3a9450.png http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse540c53f.png |
Your MD link gave me an idea. Found this on the VDGIF. I'll call there Monday.

You can download local notice to mariners. Published weekly. It reports lights out, channel markers off station, obstructions. This is the publication we use for updating our paper charts. A light out is absolutely 0 to blame for a death or accident.
The captain of the vessel is to blame. You will notice all channel markers, charts, plotters, radars, ais, and any other instrument or marker is an AID to navigation. None of it is the end all be all. If there was a death or accident the likely blame was speed to high for the conditions. This society has to start accepting blame for ourselves instead if blaming other people. If its night time or foggy. Visibility is reduced and you need to slow down or anything that goes wrong is the fault of whoever is at the controls. |
