1993 Wellcraft Nova Spyder 23 - Known Issues?
 

Going to look at a '93 Wellcraft Nova Spyder 23 this weekend and wondering if there are any certain things to check out on the boat? Were they known for Stringer rot? Transom Issues? Anything else?

Really any info would be very helpful. The owner has owned the boat since 1997 and it sounds and looks, (in pictures), like it's been babied. It has the 454/B1 combo which should be solid even if it isn't going to be a very fast boat. From what I've read these boats are on the heavy side which is fine...really looking for a comfortable ride and something that goes close to 60.

Welcrafts are well known for stringer/transom rot so check them thoroughly. tap on the transom, pull the motor mount lags and check the wood. other than that they are a nice boat.

I bought a 1993 Wellcraft Spyder Nova 23 about 3 years ago as a second boat. I had just bought a new bass boat and did not want to use it for taking the family and friends out for summer festivities. My wife and I both agree that this is the best money we ever spent. I am not sure of the price of the one you are looking at. But, for the money, I do not think there is a better closed bow semi-performance looking boat. The cabin on that model is actually big enough to use unlike most others in that length range. The only think I would be sure to add is trim tabs. If you want to get some more details, send me a PM with you number and I will give you a ring.

Thank you both for the replies. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the boat today. It has less than 400 hours and is in pretty good shape. Looking forward to the summer ahead...
