For The Fish Lover In You

We have a go fast boat and we love to ride around the lakes. Our boating days usually exist of joy riding, catching some rays and a dip in the water. This past Sunday we took a ride out to the lake after church and picked up our son's friend for a ride, some lunch and a visit to the splash park in Tavares. As we approached the lake we were met with dark clouds and a storm. Our usual late afternoon summer thunderstorms have been coming earlier and making it difficult to enjoy a day of boating...not this time! We waited out the storm and although it was cloudy and drizzly we took a ride across the lake and had some lunch by the time we finished the kids enjoyed the splash park. Not the best day for the adults but the kids had a great time and that's what family boating is all about. The Harris chains are great for family boating because even in crummy weather you can still make a day of it. You know the only other die hard boaters out there? The bass fishermen were out on the lake. This chain of lakes connects to Lake Harris one of the top ten bass fishing lakes in Florida. That got me thinking about all the boaters and families who love to fish so I did a little research and looked up the top ten fishing lakes in Florida and decided I'd list them for all the fishermen.
Here's the lineup:
Lake George
Cresent Lake
Lake Tarpon (St. Pete}
Lake Tohopekaliga
Lake Okeechobee
Lake Kissimmee
Lake Monroe
Lake Istokpoga
Lake Harris
Lake Talquin (Tallahassee)

How fortunate are we to have all of these great lakes to enjoy. Four of these lakes are within an hour’s drive of central Florida, five more two-three hours and Lake Talquin in Tallahassee the farthest. My Dad leased a gas station in Kissimmee, Florida when I was growing up and we were located one block from Lake Tohopekaliga. I worked Saturday's for my Dad we arrived at 4 a.m. to service the fisherman. (4 a.m.-8 p.m. for $20 and I had to clean the bathrooms!) This Lake is undergoing a big spruce up and we are looking forward to blogging and bringing you pictures. If you like to fish hope this list gives you some lakes to check out. We've boated on four of these lakes and are looking forward to exploring the rest. You won't see us fishing but you may see us drive by real fast or see us drifting around working on our tan sipping on a Coke.
So if your next adventure in boating finds you at one of these lakes you may see our boat, "Speedoman”. Why Speedoman? Because we love to go fast and the man wears a Speedo...be warned. The rest of the family is appropriately dressed.
