Very Cool how about 19 boats in open class, do you think we had competition in those days, and on top of that a race course 180 miles long. We were all running basically the same motors, the difference then was the boats and the crews that ran them.

Ya Richie the only basic thing was they were all V-8's

I showed these to John Rosatti today. He told me that they broke down out in the ocean and had to repair the boat. They broke a rotor and replaced it. He said they brought extra everything with them. They were hauling ass to make up lost time and it was really rough. My dad pointed his hand motioning which way to go (in a karate chop motion). They hit a wave and the bow came up us my dad was going down and my dad hit the dash and broke his hand. They never stopped and finished 4th or 5th.
Just a little different from current races.

If you look at picture 2, Al Page broke his wrist racing while they were Dillinger and Satisfaction one weekend going to fire island. They hit a bad wave and Al hit the dash.
2 broken hands during in a month period.

Gino......you asked me before to see if I could find any racing photos of this boat .........and I could not in the HORBA archives.

However, ask John if the boat was in the parade through Point Pleasant as we have a bunch of those parade shots and the team may be shown during the parade.

I think the year you are showing was 1979. Double check that too.

Gino
I gave u a pic. a few years ago.
I have a suitcase full of old photos put away.
We use to rent a chopper and put Meta in it with her camera for the Jersey races each year.

Thanks for posting all of these priceless photos! Flying things across the water that were not meant to fly is what hooked me on offshore hulls 40 years ago!
