That '64 Johnson looks great. Good add with nice photos and the original brochure is pure gold! The 3-point hull design, is that an early variant of a stepped hull?
Seems it's not unique but it's certainly unusual.

this was about a block from my shop and sat there for quite a while. The day i decided to make a deal on it it was gone lol . . . . they are kinda rare but not to hard to find. Seems a lot of people took care of them because of how unique they are, there are a few of 'em out there

Dave they made two models of this boat, this model pictured had a outboard engine inside the hull mated to a very early OMC outdrive, they were a real bust. They also had a model that did not have the deck & was open like a Boston Whaler that one was a outboard model only, & wasn't to bad. Mark.

Cheers,

Here is the rest of the story of this 24' hull with a 7' beam know as Super Turkey. This boat was the creation of Detroit's Bobby Moore the restaurateur who would later become the founder of the Race Rock restaurants. Bob started this boat back in around 1975 to race with a IO power train, but never did. The hull was sold & later finished by a neighbor of mine with the jet drive & big block Chevy. This boat called Lake St Clair home for many years until it's owner died, after that it had it's power removed. For many years it sat in many fields around the Detroit area. The large hood scoop was shrunk down & Bob had them on his race Magnum Ship On It. Many Local Magnum racers had them also on there boats making them at least 10 mph faster.:picard1: This 24' hull has traveled many miles on land but might be fun piece of Lake St Clair history. :party-smiley-004:

Wow, I,m glad I'm not the only one to question 27 x 13 k-planes on a 24' boat. I see a lot of 22' Donzi Classics with k-planes and I just have to SMH. My 22 has small dual ram Bennetts and they are very sensitive at speed. I only see k-planes on a 22-24 foot boat as a disaster waiting to happen, especially if they move fast.

Back in the 70's when this hull was rigged BIGGER WAS BETTER, some thought these very large tabs would make a 24' ride like a 28', NOT...

Depends on how you run your 22 foot boat.... Im looking for a set of 280s for mine. Currently has 12x12 lencos and they are not liking the abuse. 280s are a lot more indestructible.

Some people think that big k-planes increase the effective running surface of the boat. They do not. Others seem to like the bling factor. Fact is, the tabs should be up out of the water most of the time. They scrub speed. I use a little port tab to keep the boat level when not running wide open. I will drop both tabs a bit in rough water to help keep the boat running flat without having to tuck the drive. My little Bennetts have been up to the task. Even these little tabs can get you in trouble though if you lower one too much at high speed. I know of two other boats like mine that run in the 90s and have stock dual ram Bennetts. Big k-planes are for big boats (IMO).

.....they actually took the time to load the boat evenly on the trailer and lined it up on the bunks with the transom - ROFL!

CrownHawg 08-12-2015 01:58 PM

If you cranked down that winch strap would it straighten the boat?

Probably, but then you're going to need a dozen cans of FlexSeal for the keel...

This hull would work for someone that owns a similar boat with a damaged hull with good interior/power but as a "build project" this boat is useless.

Here's an amazing deal on a 1989 24' Checkmate for only $23k..... It has a new motor and outdrive but the motor must be top secret since there's no pics of it and the only thing new looking on that outdrive is the duct tape on the prop shaft. I guess the wood grain dash option adds $17k to the price tag

Craney 08-13-2015 09:11 PM

I think the only thing new on that drive is the duct tape.

rak rua 08-13-2015 10:17 PM

I shudder at the thought what the engine looks like. Anti foul on the top of the drive, duct tape on the lower unit, even the hour gauge stopped working ten years ago!

Looks like one of those graveyard marinas west of I-95 off Griffin Rd and Ravenswood. That AC company billboard is right in that area as of 2 weeks ago.

First off this thing needs some work, just like the girls you can pick up with this 80's pimpin' whip, but it's cheap, just like the chicks you can pick up with this 80's pimpin' whip. Grab your gold chain and fluff up your chest hair and come on down and take this thing home. First year C4 generation, and everyone knows the first year is the best, hopefully it was built on a friday afternoon to, cuz nothing keeps you focused on work than thinking about all the hedonistic coke filled debauchery, and brain cells your gonna kill over the next two days. It runs and drives, starts right up, needs minor glitch stuff. Cougar magnet, this car is hardwired into the brain of the middle aged, cuz this was the car to be in when they were Kittens. You'll be finding wal mart brand granny panties and notes from divorcee's left and right under the wipers when you park it. Nicest car in the trailer park, at least it shines and looks good going down the road. Tons of tread, unlike dem cougars am I right? pick a side and work up some friction. Top is removable, but it is cracked, but it does not get wet inside (there is another cougar joke in there somewhere). A/C needs a combo line (I like combo's) Digital dash is wonky, yes I said wonky. Radio does not turn on but who needs it over the roar of the bad ass crossfire engine (there is a combo of words never uttered in the Corvette world) and the middle aged screams to slow this bad mutherphukkin road rocket to hell. After all this was one of the 6 fastest cars in the world that you could buy in 84. It's also the best handling (watch dem dentures girl) in the world with the optional Z51 suspension. Hark back to a simpler time with 30% interest, Flammable Micheal Jackson hair, and hours of moving a dot around on your TV screen, and get this too expensive to use as K.I.T.T. on Night rider ride. Comes with Members only jacket, new coke, and parachute pants (no it doesn't) Come see it at 126 pondella rd N ft myers 33903 ask for Magnum.

Guess he hasn't realized that Puerto Rico is 1000+ miles from Miami........long way to go in an old Chris Craft! :D

He would be great to set up with a fake drug run......1000 lbs of white flour packed tightly into clear plastic bags. Just to see the guy sweating bullets while he ran flour across open seas! Of course, then pay him with a briefcase of monopoly money! :D
