I love the welded-in homemade surface drive. A million years ago I thought about fabbing one from half of a 4x4 front axle. I doubt my idea is much worse than this one. And I DID use home depot pvc and sewage pipe rubber coupler for half-a$$ thru-hull exhaust. Lasted 2 weeks...

Kinda bummed here - wishing he had two of those drives so I could swap him out. The parasitic loss on that design looks minimal.

No kidding! And you so got taken buying those expensive extension boxes... In his design you just extend the angle iron out another foot and bingo, you have your X deminsion totally customizable.

Have a 1979 Cherokee, rare boat, made by the guys from Sunsation way back in the day. Hull is 24ft, all nice and solid, and has been all reinforced for racing and/or poker runs. Boat has a built 496 in it matched with a surface drive which has hydraulic steering. Sits on a matching trailer in excellent shape. Motor has the following done to it:
Crower connecting rods
Crower full race camshaft
Steel corvent crankshaft
Pro Topline Aluminum heads
Bassett headers
Dart Intake
Twin four barrel 750 Edelrock carbs
Morosso oil pan
Full MSD 6m-2 Ignition
Electronic Fuel pump
Casale Crashbox (forward/neutral)
Racing Prop
I know I'm forgetting some things done to the motor. Has 11.5:1 compression, and runs on 110 race fuel. Motor runs very strong. This boat is not for amateurs, only has forward and neutral,no reverse. I am the second owner, bought from original owner who rarely used it, sat in his barn for years. Have original papers from when it was bought, as well as windshield and what not, was told motor has over 30g's invested in it. Boat is just to much for what I need. Looking to sell to get into something not so extreme, will look at trades for other boats or cash offers. May also be willing to split up motor and hull. Will look at offers.

Is Gs short for Goats these days?

Nuke427 04-19-2017 02:54 PM

I think we've all overlooked a high quality item on this power package. He also does not mention it in the ad, and I'm sure he's intentionally left it out to use it as a deal closer... It has a nitrous wet system on it!!! Bam, sold.

hogie roll 04-19-2017 06:46 PM

The drive and rudder setup ain't bad in theory. The execution could be better.

There's stand off boxes, and then there's stand back boxes.....

phragle 04-19-2017 07:07 PM

And.... there's two ways of looking at that

If the guy who built it as a 45 year old self proclaimed master fabricator.... All hope is gone, give Bubba his beer back, no use in holding it for him.

If the guy that built it was a 17 year old kid with nothing to work with but an imagination and the junk behind Grandpa's shed, Give him a few years, proper materials and equipment and that kid is liable to surprise you....

You act like I built this and am defending it I know it's rigged, the old man that built/sold it to me was crazy. Nobody would have turned down the price I paid for it.

No, your fine. This thread was before you showed up in the other one.

We understand your point.

phughes69 04-19-2017 08:27 PM

Where do I start??????
Home Depot galvanized pipe fittings everywhere on the water system.
angle aluminum for the throttle linkage
PVC exhaust pipe
Basset jet boat headers
disastrous wiring
more extension spring than my garage door opened
Rubber pvc couplers
Lets not even get into the "race"engine 11:1 compression????
Admittedly if the engine has what is suppose to be in it, It might be a good engine for a street car but not a boat. If the guy had 30gs into the engine he got suckered.
I understand your position Ryan. You probably got it for a really really good price (I hope):party-smiley-004: and hope to flip it, but holy crap its amazing what people can turn a good boat into a piece of crap. To make it into an sterndrive boat again, we all know it will need a new transom and possibly stringers, then you rebuilding the whole rest of the boat.:lolhit::lolhit:

Speedracer29 04-19-2017 08:37 PM

That's not just a boat, it's a conversation piece. I'd paint that mofo flat black, put "Eat Me" on the sides, skull on the deck, get a Sea-Tow policy and a couple fire extinguishers and go full D-Day all summer.
https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-McSTRp8Qu..._269Pyxurz.jpg

Drive it till it blows, have Sea-Tow haul it to the nicest house in sight, leave the signed title on the drivers bolster and just walk away laughing. That's a story to tell for years.

Dahlilama 04-19-2017 08:45 PM

Speedracer29 .........now that was f'n funny.

Ryanwilburn18 04-19-2017 08:51 PM

That's the plan, if no one wants it complete, pull motor, throw it in a mud truck or something along those lines, and take the hull to the dump. Not to worried about it.

Dont be so hard on him, Uncle Bill needed something to do with the motor after he wrecked the Camaro....

VoodooRob 04-19-2017 09:40 PM

Ryan you have to do a top speed run and record it, there is a lot of people checking this boat out on here and Facebook. If you can really get it to 80 I think everyone will be floored. I do not want you to wreck or get hurt in the boat, it would just be something if it did move out.

I can see the advert already.......

WANTED. Crash test dummy with razor sharp reflexes and huge stones to pilot a modified boat at high speed ONCE. Previous boating experience preferred but not essential.

Ryan, sorry mate, just having fun. Obviously your boat has issues, hope you can do alright and get some decent money on the engine, perhaps a taker for the boat.

Sorry RyanWilburn, didn't mean to join the pile on. This thread is for boats and other stuff to laugh at though.

Must have been the same place that painted my 1988 Corvette back in the 90's. Backed into a pole, they painted the plastic rear, got a tone of red on my nice exhaust tips, when I complained they said, "it'll burn off".

So what are you asking for the package? Interesting boat but there is no way someone put a 30 grand motor in that boat the way the rest of it is rigged. The motor even looks like extra parts from someones garage.

93 shooter 04-22-2017 08:22 AM

on fb swap shop for $8,000

That is Literally 3 blocks from me (according to the map), I'll be happy to take a closer look if anyone is interested . Chances are the 944 has a chevy v8.

He does state "takes a special interest to appreciate". I think he meant "takes a special education".

Wildman_grafix 04-26-2017 06:21 AM

I like the back up surge brakes system and electric over hydraulic brakes!

Nuke427 04-26-2017 02:46 PM

Covers - so over rated.

At least in the ad it does say (open).

DBleil89 04-27-2017 07:14 AM

Turn let? I doubt it. The guy was to lazy to cover the boat I doubt he had enough ambition to change the oil or winterize the motor

phughes69 04-30-2017 04:23 PM

Late 70's 30 Scarab with log manifolds and thru prop exhaust that will do 90 MPH. :lolhit::lolhit: But is has 500 hp props. I think this guy has had too many unicorn frapachinos.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.... it's a Seattle listing. Might as well be Canada...and he just said "90", never clarified unit of measure. He probably meant 90 KILOMETERS/hr!!! LMAO

(Also, starting today, when I'm on LSC near the international border, I will use km/h so I can say my boat runs triple digits!)

Nuke427 04-30-2017 07:41 PM

90.... :Whatever: Unicorn frapachinos, that's funny!

wwahl 04-30-2017 11:20 PM

The Seattle listing says Hayden and that is in Idaho. It gets chilly there in the winter, especially if you don't drain the blocks.

f311fr1 05-01-2017 07:30 PM

There is at least $10.00 worth of scrap iron in the bilge
