It's a 5-liter V6 Hemi by BPM. Vincenzo Tiozzo set a couple of World endurance records in its class, back in 1986. Nothing remarkable for what it was. Nobody bothered trying any records in the v-hull runabout, less than 5-liter but larger than 4-liter, inboard class. He was usually in the low to mid 70 mph range on Lake Iseo. The guys that bought this project at Mecum in 2018 paid $4,600 and then sold it on eBay for $4,200. Not sure who took it to Dan at Archer Marine to see if he wanted to help them get it going. Dan mentioned it in this thread in 2019. I bet Dan might make a comment about it. Since they're basically asking 10 times the money now, I hope it runs okey, though that would surprise me. Cool sled for Santa to use for Christmas 2024, we'll see if he's smart enough to bring it to Dan.

Thanks for the history lesson Lars.
Still a pretty rig. 5.0’s used to be a big class for closed course 3 point hydros and they were fast. Always liked the smaller inboard classes after bing to my first race as a kid. They had a decent field of 850cc boats at that event. Powered by ancient 4 banger Crosley car motors. I remember the boats seemed tiny (12’ ?) and their details really stuck to me. I remember one had a home brewed lube system for the stuffing box. A tiny glass container that only held a couple oz’s of oil w/copper tubing formed to the shaft/box, a nozzle on the end w/a petcock to regulate oil flow. They refilled that reservoir after each heat. They weren’t fast until you considered the tiny motors that powered them. Still have pix’s somewhere. Thx again for the education. Im OK W/different 😉

I remember when this boat showed up at my shop I thought what the hell. the hull wasn't in to bad of shape but thee motor and drive look to have not been run in a very long time . It's a TRS with a number II lower The motor and gear box are crazy pieces but it would be a lot of fun to run. but the asking price is insane. Regards Dan

You’re in luck!
Seller just sent me an offer of $4k bellow listed price! Back in the day, the 5 liters were one of the main acts at the inboard races. Full fields, tightly grouped and fast. Thinking Kilo records of 110-ish??? Problem w/that idea as a toy is, they’re all set up to be launched from a crane. Would take a special trailer and a good ramp for conventional launching, which I have seen done. Small block Chevy powered too so motors would be almost free!

Not Craigslist, its here,,,,,, I am assuming hit the 0 one time to many!

is that outboard bracket strong enough to take the pounding? looks pretty light duty?
|
Was thinking same!
Pretty poor ad/pixs for a 1/4 million $ listing. When we lived down there, there was a guy in Oceechobee w/one but never saw it in person. I think his had triple 2 strokes. Looks like a huge hull. Boosbros, those Porta brackets are killer!

If someone wants a nice lake toy and ain’t afraid of clip ons…., this looks pretty good.
Just had one auction and thought it sold and don’t know if it didn’t hit reserve or what. The Eliminators I’ve seen were very well built! https://www.ebay.com/itm/38679390778...mis&media=COPY |

But.... Explain to me why it's on a triple-axle trailer and why that trailer is worth $10K alone? Thanks. Brad. |
“Creative marketing”. 🤓

I saw this, dont know how you sell a boat with a pic of half of it
Maybe it's a 'moving and swamped and a low priority' thing. But at least more info if it has a trailer etc. |
I guess the owner ran it at least as late as in 2019 according to his FB account. It's supposedly the M-72 Country Boys race boat.

Bloody Aussies, stealing ideas and cashing in on it. :)
Despite the obvious, it does look pretty nice and there’s nothing embarrassing about owning a scarab. Price, at about 150K in USD is crazy but to be fair, it’s a completely different market in Australia, limited supply, no comparable new boats, good luck to the seller. RR |
The Scarab/Cigarette….
https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats...arab-29/303946 You can spot a copy by the number of times “Cigarette” is stamped on the boat. This guys done well but there’s still room for more logos………. She’s a copy. :) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...53fa30a7c.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9ea244ee7.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8749668a9.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4ac1962f4.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4b0883c06.jpeg RR |
I have a Craigslist search saved for “Cigarette” just to see all the stuff w/a Cigarette sticker on them.
Almost worth a dedicated thread 🤓 |
It's funny me and my buddy seen that last night, WTH. Thing is its a nice redo why mess it up by sayings its a CIG?
|
I guess if you attach a long enough swim deck on the back you can make what ever length boat you want??? Is that how it works? I will soon have a 19' jon boat thats converted to a 41' cigarette! :D starting bid is $100K :D extra cig stickers included for future "upgrades and expansions!" LOL
|
Add a Fountain beak to it and make it a 44 footer.
Founterette? Cigertain? |
The converted scarab cigarette was hilarious. That made it way around our group text for quite a while haha.

Looks like 2015 was a bad year and it doesn’t look like it has gotten any better.

When a spare “jug of oil”, or an alternator replaced 9 years ago are ‘selling points’, it’s difficult to get excited. :)
