There are SOOO many more bad stories about Progressive its simply amazing. Its also sick how there are laws out there that actually protect these multi million dollar companies.

Sad, Sick, and morally wrong.

Worst part is people actually get a warm and fuzzy feeling while being insured, peace of mind, if only people were more educated. But wait, most will STILL go with Progressive if its the cheapest no matter how many times we beg them NOT TO!

Nothing we can do, money rules this world, and Progressive has a lot more of it then most of us!

Side note, the yahoo runs Progressive - Peter Lewis - is a major funder to organizations like MoveOn.org and the Democratic party. Just so you know where your premiums are going...

My Progressive nightmare began when my boat was rear-ended in traffic and the other driver ticketed. A no brainer right? Progressive must pay to have my then two year old boat put back to like new condition. I could write a book about the experience but let's just say that when I finally picked the boat up and took it home I fired it up on the hose and the prop was wobbling visibly. I called my agent and took it back to the shop and arranged to meet with the agent and shop's service manager. The prop shaft was billed out. I pointed out that the trailer coupler was still bent. It was also billed out. I asked to see my old parts. I quickly produced a photo of my original prop shaft with the numbers clearly etched in a different location. They still insisted that it was replaced and that the coupler was an oversight. When I demanded that my prop shaft be replaced my insurance agent said "You're real close to being on your own". I replied "Oh. I won't be on my own, there will be an attorney involved and aren't you supposed to be on my side?". Then the two clowns whispered together and agreed to replace my bent prop shaft "again". It was clear that these two were working together to f*ck me and that there were two invoices. My fake one and a cheaper one for the insurance company. There is so much more to this horror story. I will now avoid Progressive, Geico and any other company that advertises excessively. That huge advertising budget comes from screwing people on claims.

Correction, where your money *was* going. Still could not support any company that puts out those asinine "Flo" commercials!

I actually work in the insurance industry so you would be amazed at some of the horror stories that I hear. I am an Allstate agent here in Cincinnati and before anyone get all huffy about Allstate, I can tell you that I do not work for Allstate I sell their products but work for my customers. The problem with companies like Progressive and Geico is that you do not have an agent to be your advocate and help you with the problems you may face with claims or any other issues, you get a 1-800 number that is usually sent to an overseas call center where they could give 2 $hits about your problem or situation. Also not all agents are created the same, and that includes some my fellow Allstate agents. When you are shopping for insurance if you are concerned about price only, go with Geico or Progressive, if you want someone that is going to be your advocate then do your home work and actually sit down with potential agents (no matter what company they sell for) and you will get a good feel on whether he or she is actually concerned about protecting you and your assets or just lining their pockets.

I understand your point of view (commi$$ion$ as an agent) but you have to consider the flip side. I was paying almost $8000 a year for commercial vehicle coverage from a independent agency (they covered my business, my liability, workers comp, auto.....total insurance was like 15K). I simply told the agent (had him for 10+ years) that the coverage was simply too much money. He retorted the exact same speech you posted above (like you guys are taught that at seminars or something ). I decided as a cost cutting measure to go with progressive for the commercial auto (saved $3000 a year on line by line identical coverage). I then had my payroll company cover the workers comp (state set rates so no real savings) which took out the hassle of audits (they did the payroll, nothing to audit there) and they take it out every pay period so no big down payments like previously. I then redid the liability only to find out I was grossly overpaying liability due to a smaller policy I had with the same company (you need one policy written by them, so you get gouged when you buy their general liability also). Net savings at the end of the day was over $5000 a year, $3000 was auto related alone. So in 7 years I have saved over $35,0000 in insurance by not having my local agent ($21,000 just in auto)! Safe to say a bulk of that savings was commissions to the agent. $35000 in savings is insane for a small business in a down economy!.......50K in 10 years projection means I can buy a new diesel pickup in cash just with the insurance savings!!!!

For the "worst case scenario" excuse.....I have had 2 auto claims in those 7 years. One not at fault, employee rear ended stopped at a light. Workers Comp covered the injury part, Progressive covered the truck damage. 2nd claim was at fault, employee crashed into someone, truck was totaled. Progressive paid the claim in less than 10 days. At no point did I speak with someone outside the USA, my claim specialist was 3 towns away (15 miles) and she was my email/phone contact and she cut the check.

5K a year in my pocket......yeah I'll skip the 2 times a year I used to see the old insurance agent and the free lunch I would get......
