"Driving" a boat with a "map" and tying up with a "rope". Thank goodness your a fiberglass guru or I might pull your card!! Hahaha. I was the same. Maryland required a boaters safety course years ago for anyone born after July 1, 1972. I got my first at 9. Lol. I was always driving the boat and quickly became the dd for the parents. Lol. At 14 I was allowed to take her all over the Chesapeake by myself. Good times.
And to think now I run a boat for a living. Lol

My Dad was a Vice President for National Presto Industries in the late '30's and early 40's. Presto bought Martin Motors. He was responsible for George Martin's racing efforts. When I turned 10 he gave gave me a Martin 100 and a Class B runabout called 'Black Magic'. I never turned back.

Summer Obsession, thank you for standing up for me. I thought it would be interesting to talk to others and see what the responses would be. We have the variety of what all the relatives have as far as a boat goes.

I like some of the nostalgia from fellow members on here. I'm the only go fast boater in my family. My brother has a 16 foot skiff boat for fishing. Trying to get him to look at a center console sport fish for his next one. My family has been around boats for at least three generations. My grandparents owned several boats prior to purchasing the boat marina here in Pittsburgh which is still in the family. I even have the old 1940/50ish Christ Craft that used to belong to my grandmother. Most of her old boats were either runabouts or old wooden cruisers... In fact, I have the marina to thank for my go fast enthusiasm. I was a small child and remember seeing an old Wellcraft there one summer. It was red and had lots of chrome on it. No idea on which model but it was long and thin. At least in my eyes. That was the hook. Have been in love with long, loud and fast boats since.

FWIW, it's not a bad topic.
