If you are set on the Carolinas lake Norman has a fair amount of go fast boaters. My favorite lake by far is lake Keowee. It's in the foothills of the blue Ridge mountains. Water is the cleanest you will find. There is a waterfall into the lake with a large sandbar at its base where people hang out. ... play volleyball, horse shoes. ... party cove! Very nice high end homes on the lake... lots of amazing golf courses/clubs. Check it out.

Southwest Florida for the combo of anywhere boating and affordable real estate. Think Charlotte harbor to ft myers. Lots of waterfront homes in there at very reasonable prices. I'm in Cape Coral and love it.

Definitely not the Outer Banks for a go fast boat. We live in Tampa and have a house at Cape Hatteras and they are two completely different styles of boating. On the Outer Banks there are very few places to go and dock. Wind is almost always blowing and there are very few go fast boats.

Hillsborough county is where Tampa is located. In 1970 it had a population of under 500,000 and now it has a population of over 2 million. And they all are out driving on the very same day that I want to go somewhere.

When we go back down next winter we are going to look on the East coast, but up between Ft Pierce and Edgewater. Tampa has been nice and convenient with the air connections over the years, but time to move east.

About the ONLY place in North Carolina with a decent amount of fast boats is Lake Norman. I have been to the coast a bunch of times and only spotted 3 go-fast boats in my life. Jeff

I'm a huge fan of Lake Norman. I go there on vacation every summer for 2 weeks. I plan to retire there some day. As for Florida, I'm a fan of the Gulf Coast. I like Naples, Fort Myers, etc. Very nice area.
