Avanti 22 speed vs.hp

I know a few people around here have had them in the past. Right now Im running a 454 330 mpi and with a generic 23p 3 blade Im seeing about 55. At that speed the boat handeling wise feels like its starting to work good. I would like to see a cruise around 60 without having to wring the motor out. Any guesses as to what I need to look for total hp wise to do this??

575- 600 will push mine 79.5 full of fuel and 3 people

1.36 ratio 5300 rpms.

that's moving out in that Lil boat. I'm going to miss it lol.

See this is whats confusing me, the thread mentioned states one will do 70 with 420 hp, PNP states that 575-600 will almost crack 80, yet with 330 Im seeing 55.

This is all over the board, 90 hp is a jump from 55 to 70, 15 mph increase, adding 150 hp from 420 to 575 is only a 9 mph gain..

The math isn't working for me and I would really like to get a handle on it to build or buy once and achieve my goal.

That's because hp and speed don't have a linear relationship.

rob mine is 100% no trickery. no wishometer. everything I know you do.

but I haven't had the motor on a dyno

454 tall deck stroked an .30 over = 518ci
world grumpy Jenkins heads worked
world intake worked

guy I bought from stated 600 flywheel hp
I'm figuring it isn't far off

standard height bravo - 1.36 ratio.
nickerson carb
scorpion 1.7 rockers

but it runs off and hides from most small boats especially when it gets rough.I have found dragging a little tab to be very beneficial.

keep in mind I don't care what the boat will run empty , outta gas on flat water and me in a banana hammock.. lol I'm an all around type.

also every Baja goes 70-80 where I'm from but I've yet to see em go on by lol.

PigNaPoke 07-15-2014 02:17 PM

also ihave run just about every prop on it I could get. 5 blade and 6 blade included.

by far best for handling and overall running has been bravo one unlabbed.
hydromotive props sucked on my boat.

maximus was a no go.

It take about 20 horse power to go 1 mph faster, 100 horse power to gain 5 mph depending of the boat. That is kind of the ball park when trying to make your boat go fast what it will take.
