I just ordered a QUAD 4....
Hydromotive seems to have some good policies. 10% re-stocking charge if the prop is way off. If it is the wrong pitch there is a $20.00 exchange fee. If the prop is real close and more RPM is needed they will thin the blades and cut down the diameter up to a half inch, depending on how it comes out of the hole and how many R's are needed for around a $250.00 adder. If you do the blade thinning the warranty is void and the prop is non returnable. I should be receiving the prop early next week and will promptly give it a shot. Just thought it would be refreshing to hear some positive feedback for a change. I hope the new prop rocks!!!

PROP? Thought you were talking about the MOTOR.
Sorry. Mike J. |
:p

4-blade or 5 blade?? hope you get what ya need they are right around the corner from me (ok 45 mics) but they will loan me props for 1-2 days to test for $50 a set. when I need too.
Later Sat69:D  :D |
Tom and Gary are great people to work with. Never had any problems with them on any prop and Ihave tried a lot of them
satisfaction69: 45 mics must be real close???:) |
Wette Vette - what boat are you trying this on, is it stepped or non stepped, what kind of power, and do you have a high X. I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of giving them a try.
|
I used one of their props on a high X application. Broke a blade with in 3 hours. :(

I will be trying a 27 4 blade on my Baja 210 Sport. The boat is a vee hull with a 4" delta pad. I am running a 2" short bravo drive, but still my "x" isn't extremely high. I would guess my motor to be putting out 680 to 700 HP naturally aspirated. My current prop is a 29" Spinelli that I turn 6100 to 6300 rpm and GPS speeds of 95 to 97.8 MPH. Hydromotive is hoping we'll see 5900 to 6000 RPM and 93 or so MPH. Then we can have the prop thinned and the dia decreased for the extra couple of hundred RPM and MPH. My Spinelli is awesome, but if I happen to bang it I'm screwed. So I will be going with Hydromotives suggestions and hopefully we can get the same speeds or at least within 2 MPH of the Spinelli. It will be good to have a spare prop that works well and can be duplicated.;)

Enticer: still can't get ride of this Military lingo, should me 45 mins

Well I guess I will be getting the new prop blueprinted. We ran it this past weekend at the Hardy Party and had good results. With a full tank of fuel, a passenger, cooler and other gear we managed to turn the 27 Quad IV 5900 RPM for a best GPS speed of 91 MPH. We then put on the 29 Spinelli and ran it for a while and were able to get 6000 RPM and a GPS best of 93 MPH. I spoke to Hydromotive and asked about thinning the blades and what to expect. They think I will see 100 to 150 RPM and hopefully 2 MPH. They also think the slip out of the hole will be less with the blueprinted / shaved prop. It slipped pretty bad so the diameter will have to be left alone. We did our testing on a sticky 87 degree day, so I am assuming the comparisons will still be valid on a 75 degree dry day when HP is heavy. So lets do some BS math. On its best day the Spinelli turned 6300 RPM and a GPS best top end of 97.8 MPH with me and 10 gallons of fuel in 65 degree heavy HP air. Now if we use the 27 pitch prop at the same RPM as the Spinelli under those ideal conditions I come up with 97.2 MPH. Anyway just thought I would share. The prop will be out for a while getting printed and then we shall see!;) I will let everyone know how it turns out. Later, Craig

Geez...that's hauling butt in a small boat
|
Did you see better handling and speed with 2'' shorter drive ? I HAVE A 240 with 647hp but speed handling sucks . using lab 26 bravo:mad:  any thoughs.:(
|
Handling improved with the short drive, but I cannot attest to any speed increases because I built a new motor at the same time. The addition of the hydraulic steering also made the boat much more driveable. With a short drive your boat needs to have natural bow lift if good results are expected. The boat now runs flatter, but there is still enough lift to keep from bow steering or plowing. Your larger boat may not like the short drive. It may handle better, but go slower. The only way to know is to try one out. I have a friend that is selling his short bottom only because he lost speed with it. I don't know what he wants for it yet.
|
On my prior application with a short drive, I lost handling and gained speed on a application that required a large amount of trim to run fast. Guess the rule of thumb is to try it.
WV-If that prop is even slightly surfacing (Which I would suspect on your application) then I absolutly would not modify it in any way...unless you are willing to risk breakage. |
I hear ya Cord!!! If the blueprint is done the warranty is void. Since this prop is only a backup and I don't put a lot of hrs per year on my ride I think I'll probably risk it. Hopefully nothing will happen to the Spinelli and the Hydromotive will only see limited use on new, unfamiliar lakes until I figure out where the shallow spots are. Thanks for the warning though.

I'm wondering if prop blowout is inherent in the design of the Quad 4. I bought a new/used 25" and I can ALWAYS blow it out off the line and my stock 26" Bravo 1 never blows out. The Bravo is faster accelerating and top speed. Both props have same top rpm at 5000 rpm.
I have a 95 24 Outlaw Whipplecharged 454. |
Finally got to try the blueprinted prop.

It happens to be my last boat ride in the WETTE VETTE this season. The good news is that for the third season in a row it is going into storage with no problems and ready to go next spring.:) Now for the performance with the blueprinted prop. It pulls real hard to about 90 MPH and peaked out at 6200 RPM and 96.9 MPH. Running in similar weather the 29 Spinelli had a best of 97.8, so I guess it would be safe to say that I now have a very strong back up prop.:D On another note the Quad IV is awesone in the corners. I took out some pretty sharp corners at 70 plus and the prop and boat hung in there. I had a blast!!! Now how can I find that elusive last 3 MPH to get me into the "3 digit club" ????? I've got all winter to think about it.
|
Hey I also had a pair of new hydromotive props with about ten hours on them, threw a blade and they would not cover the prop. I now have merc props. He seems like a nice guy until you have a problem. Be aware!!
|
I have 2 of them, and I love the way they work on my little boat.

What does a Hering Bravo style prop cost? What are their restocking policies if it doesn't work? I am always willing to try props. I have my doubts that a prop alone in gonna get me to the three digit mark.
|
One word=NITROUS
|
Nitrous would be the easy way to three digits from this point. You never know!!!:D Lets see 29 pitch at 6700 RPM, yea that would be in the 100 MPH plus range.
|
Do it!
A little shot will get you into the club. That little extra bit to squeeze past the century mark. If set up properly, it can be reliable, safe, horsepower. |
