Matt hate to say it but this story to me has no interest if it isn't going after 100. It's just another guy building another boat. Might as well get with some guys on here who would make a much better resto story. For me the interest was in him hitting 100.

To each his own, of course, and we certainly wouldn't argue with anyone on matters of taste. We have a lot of readers who tell us they "love" this project, but that, too, is a matter of taste.

That said, we'll be interested to see what this boat looks like when it's done—and learn how it runs. Between our digital magazine and the website, we cover a decent cross-section of performance boat restoration projects but very, very few end up in the single-engine sportboat class. So we're committed to seeing this one through to its completion. We think it's going to be pretty cool when it's done.

Worth the time, effort and expense? Not to everyone, for sure, but definitely for the owner and, given that it's his time and money, that's what matters. But he—wisely in our opinion—gave up on his 100-mph goal awhile back.

As always, we appreciate and respect the feedback.

it's a 23 foot Chaparral with a single engine. The speeds he's running, may not be 100, but still pretty awesome. Keep the info coming Matt!! I, for one, am anxious to hear where he ends up!

Shoot! I wrote "26-foot" throughout. Thanks for the heads up!

No please don't take it wrong Matt. Lol. Was just giving personal opinion and unless I missed something they didn't mention any speed numbers. When he was chasing triple digits it was very intriguing. I enjoy build and resto threads but with his goal not 100 it's just like the many great ones we have here. The guys here have more pics though. Lol. Keep up the great work.

Not at all. I completely get your point and, as I said, appreciate the feedback.

I like the article and enjoy seeing someone bringing back a boat like this. After owning 3 Chaparral's back in the 80's and 90's brings back many fond memories. Two of them were the same color scheme. I look forward to seeing the end product and performance results. Will certainly surprise a few people on the lake I bet!

A little info on the boat. I had one just like it- same color but an '87. It is actually a true 22' boat from 1985-1987. In 1988 they redesigned it with the molded platform and called it a 23 but the hull was exactly the same. The one he has lists the weight at 3200lbs. equipped with a small block. It had a variable deadrise- 32 degrees at the bow and 22 at the transom with a 12"keel pad. A phenomenal riding hull.
Mine had Bennett double ram tabs and only needed them when it got snotty outI I had a modified small block in it and got it to 65 without any chine walking. Of course that's not 100 but it was great running and very stable. I even crossed Lake Ontario to Toronto and back twice and both times got caught in 4-7 footers coming back. The boat was fine but we had "whiplash".
I raced offshore local and A class for a few years and it was a winning boat even in 3-5 footers. This is where WHIPLASH came from. Looking for a cartoon villain's name (for the Villain boat) and remembered Dudley Do Right and Snidely.
Matt- you may have seen the latest WHIPLASH ( Fountain) at the Buffalo Poker Run, although it was not one of the awesome boats there.

Not impressed at all due to this, "Boat Repairs Plus, the outfit that has handled much of the boat's restoration work."

Hell anyone can get a checkbook out. Big Deal.
