Fountain.....How fast????

Hey all,

I was curious as to how fast (GPS) should/would a 1995 42' Fountain w/ triple 525SC's be. For the sake of argument (sorry for taking all the fun out of it) let's say it's running the "correct" props and carrying 150 gallons of fuel.

Thanks!

Didn't know a 42 was available with triples but assuming they are, I know a guy with a 47 with triple 525's that runs 85 to 88 on gps. So figure another 2 to 3 mph for a 42 with the same power.

MIdnightRider 08-27-2002 08:16 PM

That boat being a non-step 42 with triples on that power is an 85mph boat. Put that on the Fountain board and let the experts tell you. My 42 with triple 630's will run 91mph on a good day, thats it. Those boats need to be trimmed out, with some decent chop to break loose for any good numbers. Midnight:cool:

92-93mph

MIdnightRider 08-27-2002 08:23 PM

Back 4, I appreciate your input, but no way. Put that on at Bam and it will be close. That is less than 500 each prop shaft. We had a US1 with 525's and the new owner said 85mph, that goes right with where mine is at. On another note, I got back a video last week with good shots of us runnin you guys in the CIG and that Formula at SOTW, it was sweet. Midnight:cool:

92-93 if it is a step hull. What year did the 42' get stepped? I thought the 95's were stepped.

MIdnightRider,
Trailering the boat up to Holland on Saturday. We have a slip where 32Fever is staying. Are you going to be tied up on that wall by that Musical Fountain? I can't wait to hear that pretty music. :p You will start up that musical Fountain of yours so I can hear all 1800HP.:p :D :D

Hey Dan, the "musical waters" are in grand haven officialy known as the dancing waters.;)

MIdnightRider 08-27-2002 08:42 PM

My figures were based on Non-step, I was thinking it was 96 and up that had steps, no offense meant Back 4 if I'm wrong.

Candyman- Are you going to be in GH Saturday Night? You know there is no night life in Holland. Give me your details, and a phone # again. Times, everything! Midnight:cool: We have to hook up.

Diveboy, By any chance are you refering to Dave Z's old boat beacuse if you are those engines only appear to look like SC525's and that boat rock's.

Some 95's have steps. I've seen them both step and non-step. Not sure why, but it might be earlier production/later production. I read a 42 with triple 500hp's (1995 with twin step) runs low 90's.

Oops...Sorry i read that wrong.
Thought he ment step bottom...-7mph.
You got a copy of the SOTW run?!?!?!
What the heck...Wheres my copy, Marc?

B4M,
Midnight doesn't have the SOTW tape. He has his own tape with some footage of Steel Heart running next to him. That wasn't a Fountain owner on a Cig was it?:p Maybe Cigwillie is right. :D

Thanks Guys!!!

LEE:

No, it's not the same boat that Dave Z used to own. My buddy in WI. is looking at one that a local guy has for sale. He was curious as to what type of top speeds he should expect from that set-up. The current owner claims 90 on GPS, which sounds about right from what others have said. I don't know Dave Z, did he sell that boat to a guy named Jeff from St. Clair? If it's the same boat that Jeff just bought, you're right, it ROCKS!!! I believe mid 90's on GPS!!!

27 FOUNTAIN 08-28-2002 05:50 PM

I have a friend with a 94 non step 42 w/trip merc 500's, and have ridden on this boat several times. 78 mph(gps) with 5 people on an 85 degree day at Lake Cumberland.
