Ideas on a fiberglass hoodscope?

We just built a new Saris 825 and found out we need more air in the hatch, I'm going to go with a hood scoop but just want to know what everyone is using? Or what model or design I should go with . Any input would be great. Thanks

Harwood internal flange/hidden flange style. Much cleaner look. Get anodized bevel washers with Allen head bolts.

A harwood will need some glass laid inside to make it durable enough for any kind of unexpected load.

Not sure what Harwood you speak of but the one I bought would hold my father at 250 on it no issue. The one I just bought is crap I layed some heavy matt and resin to strengthen it

I bought 4 Harwood scoops this year and ALL of them were super thin and had to be reinforced alot. I think they were the 3162 (?) tall aero pro stock models.

Does it suprise you they need to be beefed up? they are made for car hoods, not your drunk azz falling on them........

i have used several Harwood scoops and they all needed to be beefed up. To be fair they are made for cars, i had no probs with any of them.

With two engines crammed in my small boat, heat was an issue so I built a new hatch with scoops both ends open. It pulls out a lot of heat from the engine bay measured before and after the install. I used a light scoop locally made for drag cars and added more layup to it. Cut the flange off for a lower profile and used a lot of screws to fasten in the hatch.

There are vent holes behind the panel with Mirage logo on it but it wasn't enough to get air pulled in and out through the aluminum side vents .

I bought 2 Harwood scoops!!!!!!!! $630 of **** junk. On the one the inner flange was not even glassed together. I called and talked to the head ass hole in charge and he told my sorry about your luck. Not even hay I'm sorry for your inconvenience Ill sent you a new one or even a ****n shirt. $630 for the scoops $300 in glass work so I can use them. DONT BUY THEM!!!!!
Doesn't hardon marine make one for marine use now?

spectras only 10-01-2014 06:33 PM

mine isn't a Harwood one but a local manufacturer. Paid $120 ea and did an extra layup of mat&cloth to withstand someone accidentally treading on it. These scoops made for cars where extra weight isn't needed. Either Hardin or one of the West Coast companies carry scoops I think.Looks like Harwood jacked their price up!

You need a raised scoop to catch good air. I like this one and the price isn't bad:
