Closed Cooling Pics.
 

I'm thinking about adding closed cooling to my new motors, the problem is it's a 28 Pantera with 2 big blocks which makes it a little tight in there. I'm looking for some pictures of some of the closed cooling that you might of added.

look at sportfish-convertibles for sale. most under 38 feet are big block closed cooling set-ups. the merc type hangs on front of engine above drive belts. the crusader-ish type hangs above rear of engine above flywheel. those could be a squeeze in your engine compartment. trojan f36 on ebay right now with decent pic of crusader setup and how much room above-behind engine it needs.

I used the 4.5" diameter 29" long 600 HP kit from Monitor Products on my 540's, tried to fit the 4.5" 33" long 700 HP kit to mount below engine but just could not fit it in the bilge properly. I am running a dynoed 560 per side with carbs. The kit comes with 170 degree thermostats that left the sun pad too hot to lay on once we anchored. The 525 closed cooling 120 degree stats match the ones that come in the kit and I switched to those. Max engine temp is about 130 running, I like the cooler temp and it helps the oil cooler out as well.

The exchangers mount above the front of the engine and it is a tight fit with the power steering pump on the starboard. The only regret now is that I would have liked to include my Stainless Marine aluminum manifolds for a "FULL" system, but just don't have room for a longer heat exchanger. Boat is not back yet from Shop, had them switch my TRS for Bravo, moved the engines back 14" in the bilge, mostly to gain access for service. Now I can fit in and do raw water pumps and change spark plugs without having to take most everything off the front of the engine. (at 7500 lbs, my boat with 560 a side will not stress a B1 drive). 560 is all the power I need now, 99.99% of the time my "speed limiter, gas gauge watcher" gets quite loud above 4,000 rpm. Arm slaps start at 4,500. 5,000 results in a "I'm not speaking to you for the rest of the day", Huhhh, maybe that is a good thing???

This is after I rebuilt everything. I have an older 30' scarab which also has a very tight engine compartment but these units are tucked in nice and close and the front pullies stick out more then the heat exchangers.

I have done a few closed cooling conversions. I can say that sometimes its easy, other times not. However, when you get it correct, the end results are worth the troubles and expense. Here is one of them... ran this engine in today. Don't mind the rigged up ignition, the cooling hoses hanging or automotive headers. That was done solely to test the new engine.
