Now if I could just bring some chicks and beer out there we could whoop it up,................................... looks nice today.
|
Artie I missed it. Why can't ya walk? Good luck in recovery.
Outlaw trust me I wasn't happy with that whole scenario but don't necessarily believe the media either. Also of not most people don't know this but more oil leaks out of the ground naturally every year than all oil spills combined. Jim with women and beer on board I wouldn't have to go home!! |

So in have been looking around Port of Tampa so far. Have not came across much but that's cause I know we don't have much. |
Well the beauty of working in the oil patch is you can live where you want. I'm a captain of an offshore supply vessel. I fly to work and fly home. There are all sort if hitches(work schedule) depending on what you get into. 28-14. 14-14. 7-7. 14-7. 28-28. These are days on and days off. I currently work 28-14. Studying now to upgrade to a big boy license and the pay rate goes up enough ill work 14-14 at some point in the near future. 6 months a year off ain't bad.

lol, I am originaly from Morgan City and my dad worked for Chevron as "company man" for 45 years. 7/7 sucked, 14/14 probably the best one. He got me summer jobs while in college roustabouting on Jack ups. |
I've been working over here 6 years now. I can spell most of it. Lol. 14-14 seems perfect to me. I love my job but after 2 weeks I'm ready to go home. Actually on the flip side after 2 weeks home I wanna grab the throttles again. Something about controlling a large floating hunk of steel that I just love.
|
I want your job! !!

Wow didn't know there that many oil/ gas field brothers here I work for a service company in the marcellus shale play here in pa. the best parts of up here is you can find companys where you get to go.home everyday. Lots of jobs down south but there's a lot of big companys leaving the.south all together and moving up here I would deffently keep that option open we can boat to our jobs though
|
I'm offshore. These guys can't leave down here for up there. Lol plus I love living where I do so I'm ok with not going home every night. I like my 2 weeks at a clip off.

I am with ya, I love were I live and if I ever did move it would be south more, not north. I would be fine doing 14/14 and coming back home to here then home everyday but living up north. |

Any of those schedules would be nice! I did a 173 day hitch in 2007, after 10 days off the office called and told me to be at the shop at midnight, I declined. A lot of jobs do not have set schedules, try not to get fooled into that. We were told to live within a couple hours of the shop. Almost 7 years of offshore burned me out completely. I did a few months in the winter out west on a drill rig when there was no work for my trade that winter, wouldn't mind doing that again if i could do it in PA or West VA, somewhere somewhat close to home.
Been doing it 6 years so far and have never had a scheduling problem. I have worked extra to help people out here and there but they have done the same for me. Maybe 4 times in 6 years have I worked extra. Always by my choice. |
Been out on many an OSV out of Fourchon. Usually stuck in the engine room though. Wonderful views topside that's for sure.
|
Yeah, the captains mates, ab's and chiefs on the boat I was on always had a set schedule. The construction crew with exception of the superintendent all got the short end of the stick. At the time I truly enjoyed it, however it was not uncommon for the average hitch to be 90 days for us.
|
I used to work 90 on 21 off in the Bay of Campeche back in the 80's. It was by choice as I was trying to get a nest egg together to start a business. I can remember the excitement that would build when I had less than a week to go, praying for decent flying weather so that I wouldn't have to ride a crewboat for hours.

And then there's days like this. 20-25 knot winds. 6 ft seas. Can't see seas in the pic. Luckily they are following. Heading to te dock. Back home Wednesday.
