I dont believe for a second it did, keep in mind it was marketing engine oil. Like pretty much everything else these days . . . . . scripted.

my thoughts as well...but still interesting video...saw it on a pop up ad on the side of OSO.

That is not really a tug, it is a shallow water workboat. A real tug would have parted that line easily. The offshore deepwater tugs I worked around had 2 EMD's as in two train engines. Nice vid, but not even close to the real deal. The tugs that work the Houston ship channel would have pulled that truck off the dock just above idle.

I used to work at a dock and our boat was 900hp. Would pull that truck right in the drink. Theres very little prop wash and no smoke whatsoever. I call bs!

On a side note, poor poor clutch:picard1:

Wait, it had to be true. I saw it on the internet. :picard1:

Cole2534 10-09-2014 08:05 AM

It ended when the tug went sideways. Also, the truck had a massive advantage from its elevation. The harder the tug pulled, the better the truck planted.

BigSilverCat 10-09-2014 10:04 AM

I have done this test with my cruiser and it pulled a truck right across a parking lot, but the rope was more level.

I text Mike Ryan (one of the guys in the video) and ask him if it was scripted and he said "we towed the boat with no trouble". I tried to call him to ask about it but he's in England and will call me when he comes home.

f_inscreenname 10-09-2014 01:18 PM

A real tug would have pulled the truck over and if the truck was stuck to the pier it would have pulled the pier over.

Crude Intentions 10-09-2014 11:44 PM

900hp isn't a real tug. Lol. That's a poly propylene line. They part rather easy.

38 X 10-10-2014 12:05 AM

To be fair thou, it was only a 500 hp truck....so putting it up against a 5000 hp tug isn't really a match unless it's a 5000 hp fire breathing tow rig that would rip the keel off a tug...just saying lol

Crude Intentions 10-10-2014 12:19 AM

In one aspect your right. However in this instance we have to look at angle of towline. Plus traction of tires on concrete vs a vessel. There are more variables to account for.

38 X 10-10-2014 01:39 AM

Agreed ICU, the truck did have a couple advantages, and yeah that tow line running high vs running level is a big advantage...and from the looks of it, that wasn't the first pull they made..
