Boat places to visit in Miami

Going to Miami for 2 days next week wed to Friday to look at some potential work and will have some free time. Since it is the performance boat Mecca where can I go to check out some cool stuff? Any factories that don't mind stopping in for a few and maybe buying a shirt you can't get up here in md? Lol. I did some searching and most threads talk about Miami activities around the boat show. Unfortunately I'm Afew months early.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't start a what boat is better thread

Cig requires advance scheduling for a tour...but a killer factory to see.

Anyone got basic directions to the Haulover inlet? Want to hang out there this weekend.

Between the 125th St Broad Causway and 167th Street Sunny Isles Causway on Collins Ave. I grew up in Miami, been through the Haulover Cut thousands of times. Can be and usually is a wicked little inlet. Very narrow with big nasty rocks on both sides. Lots of swells and wave action most of the time. You can go into the Haulover Beach Park and park near the inlet. You can sit on the rocks and watch all the boats get bounced around getting through it. Can be very interesting. Have fun in Miami!! It has changed a lot since I was there, but still a fun place to hang out for a few days.

Thanks for the info! I used to hang out in miami in the late 90's and early 2000's.....Both me and Miami have really changed. Used to do some serious clubbing on the beach in the day but these days my old ass just dont fit in anymore:picard1:

It's not performance boat mecca like you think bud. There's 5 to 6 places to go see but don't expect to see any performance boats running on Biscayne Bay or anything. It's NOT what it use to be at all. The boats you will see at Cigarette, TnT, Chief Performance, Fast Boats etc 95% of them are not from South FL. I live here and I want to buy a place in LOTO for the spring and summer because to me that's a performance mecca. Now in the winter time and after KW, some boats stay down here but even that is not how it was 6 to 7 yrs ago. Sucks really sucks that the place where it all started lost its vibe for some moons ago.

NASCAT 10-09-2014 12:29 PM

What about Larry Goldman & Xtreme Marine, aren't they close to Phil & TNT?

Well then I guess I should clarify. Performance boat manufacturing meca. I'd like to visit Afew shops to see Afew things not expecting to see boats everywhere, also I'm only going to have a day or so to look around not exactly a week.. I live on the Chesapeake bay which mile for mile id put one of the best boating areas in the US as far as waterfront bars/restaurants and coves rivers. We even have a 300 page book of waterfront destinations.

But anyways I'm more of a nuts and bolts guy anyways I like to see how things are made.

Brian, I just might take you up on that. I met you at JOTJ on Sunday. I had the yellow/red/black Baja.

I wasn't trying to sound like a douche head, but just don't want you to come thinking you are going to see them running around in the ocean or Biscayne bay as you would see them at LOTO, Grand Lake, Havasu. On the performance shop side we have many of those and some of the best in the industry. Tommy at Chief is a must. As far as places to eat on the water not many either besides Montys on the beach, Montys in Coconut Grove which is next to Grove Harbor Marina (some performance boats there TnT has more), Scotty's on the bay.

sea6 10-09-2014 03:17 PM

What about Gilbert's. is that just hot on the weekends?

I didn't take it like that at all, I just didn't want to head down and be like sh!t I didn't even think to go here or there that's all. Thanks for the advice.

They're right behind the rail road tracks by Biscayne. Real close to TnT rigging shop.

Cig is in Opa -Locka and they are really the only performance manufacturer other than Active Thunder in SE FL. Anyone consider Pantera a manufacturer anymore? There are some center console builders around but performance is limited.
