Merc 700 SCI and NXT
Looking at a boat with a Merc 700 SCI and NXT drive. It runs a bravo style prop in an adapter.
The motor has a computer upgrade lifting power to 850HP. Is this a safe power level for both the motor and the drive? |
Lots of 700s with upgrades.
You may need this though. http://www.cyborgtransmissions.com/C...yborgNEXT.aspx |

I've didn't know that there was such an adapter that allowed the running of bravo props on a NXT or 6 shaft. Any one know anything about it? Why would anyone do that other than to allow running less expensive props?

thanks. looking at moving to a part of Australia with awesome weather, near perfect all year round. the downside is the smooth water is speed limited to 40 knots and the ocean is pretty choppy most of the time. So looking to get a go slower boat...
No idea how to post a pic here, but if you message me your email address, I'll email a pic of the NXT with the bravo style prop on it. |
There is a great long thread on the Whipple upgrades in the Tech section. It goes through a member upgrading his 600 Sci up to near 1000hp. Just search 600 SCI Whipple upgrade. Think it was done by CL BR. It will give you lots of information. Just went through it myself as I bought a boat with twin 700's. Looks like the 700 is well capable of handling it. Seems like the NXT cone clutch fails more with heavier V's. Might work on a lighter cat with low risk.
