Nobody Knows Why?

NOBODY, not even Nort knows WHY they went from a Chris Craft to Wellcraft?
In season 1, they referred to the boat as "Their Cigarette Boat" and Chris Craft pulled their sponsorship!

Wow.......pretty touchy about that weren't they. Guess that could have been the downfall of Chris Craft right there huh? I looked around but couldn't find anything about that. How did you know that little piece of trivia?

Gary-

You know what......pretty close. I was married in 85-87 and had the 3-4 day beard fashion and the clothing thing going on. Didn't have the power boat and drug thing going on, just a Hobbie Cat 16 and beer, but I was on the water. As I remember it.....the 80's was all about hair too, and long was in. Check this out from late 87 in Tahiti.............whoa!

THE ONE MIAMI VICE SWHOW IN QUESTION THE BAD GUYS BOAT WAS A CARY 50 NOT A MAGNUM AND IN THE SHOW DON J. COULDNT CATCH UM WITH HIS SCARABE EVEN THOUGH THE CARY'S ONLY RUN ABOUT 55 ON A GOOD DAY. (I HAVE ONE)

laster 10-26-2002 08:19 PM

hotrod2 - that would be "The Great McCarthy" and Crockett did catch him thanks to his new "turbos" that he had installed just before the race as well as a three man bolster which doesn't appear in any other episodes. Two of my favorites from this episode are the orange jump suits   and Zito "throttling" the boat from the center bolster even though the sticks are at the drivers right hand.:D

TNN was pretty cool for awhile with the POP thing. Now it has totally gone in the crapper.
Is the 'Vice' even aired anymore on any network?

It's Microsoft Image Composer. Just for the record.........I look about the same as in 87, but 10 pounds heavier (which is a good thing), and short hair (but not BALD!!!). :D :D :D :D Pretty great photoshop work!

I ordered the Jan Hammer complete Miami VIce collection CD from www.jamhammer.com
I just got it in the mail today, and have made it through about 10 songs. If you like this kind of music, this is a must have. It is great!! Brings back a bunch of memories!!

Cool Thread! Is the collection out on DVD? That would be a must have.

I have a buddy with a Tan and Maroon 39 Stinger with 502's and TRS's, shame it wasnt blue and teal. The cabin layout looks like a 70's van it's goddy looking for sure.

I found this one on the 43 Scarab Signature Edition Don Johnson spec. 43.2 Long 8.9 wide 10500 lbs twin tanks 225 gal with twin 630 hp V-12s.

Surgin' General 04-09-2003 09:53 PM

My buddy owned the actual 38 Scarab used on the show. I don't know when he bought it, though. He put 588's in it and the last time I saw it was when it was "sea" trialed and sold on the beautiful Potomac River here in the nation's capitol back in July, 2001.

I can find out some more info if anyone is interested.

Nice shot of Cosmo Kramer in those Vice screen shots....giddyup.

Allan4 04-09-2003 10:02 PM

Miami Vice was just awesome. That's all I got.....besides the fact I ahve no idea how the hell you two alter those photos like that....:) :)

I think that Don Johnson Edition had the Lambourghini 12cyl. marine engines in it. I worked around the show while I was at UM and I kind of never lost touch. I miss it on TNN at 2am when I get home at night. I'm stuck watching videos of the few episodes I have.

Greg

P.S. I think the episode with Ted Nugent was my fave.

That is correct! The Don Johnson Edition had the option of going with the Lambo V-12's. They were major expensive and the boat still only ran 75mph. Even in the 80's thats not fast enough for the $$.

This is easily a top 5 best thread ever! So many great memories and excellent vintage brochure pics and info. Keep on keepin on OSO!

LapseofReason 04-10-2003 09:10 AM

G. Gordon Liddy was talking about the time's he was on the show and said they had 3 Scarabs all the same. He asked why have 3 and they said it's cheaper than if one wont start or if they need the boat in two places at the same time. There was one of the boats in OSO classifieds, said it was built for the show but not used or something like that. I havent seen the one on the Potomac in a while.
