1998-1999 Suburban towing capacity
Hey Guys were looking at 1998-1999 Suburban I've been told that I have to get a 2500 w 454 to pull my 6000lbs B&T otherwise it will sag in the rear when I get her loaded up with luggage & gas??? I know some of ya guys must have one so what's up can I get a 1500 & or a Yukon/Tahoe to pull this ok?
In short who is pulling over 6k with a GM Suburban,Tahoe,Yukon.

Secret, the 98-99 Suburbans had leaf springs and the 2000 and newer have coils on the 1500's. A 1998 1500 should have no problem w/ 6000 lbs. They were rated for 7500 lbs with the trailer towing package which included a class 3 hitch and transmission cooler. If you are going to load the back of the truck with heavy luggage then have an extra leaf installed by a spring shop on each side s/b ~$200. So make sure it has the towing package. The 350 engine has a good amount of power.

Good advise wannabe. I pull my 272 Baja with some gas in it, all my gear, tandem trailer, full tank of gas in my Yukon with all our luggage and I have very little sag. By the way, I have 10-ply tires too, they help a lot when towing! I know I'm close to 6000 lbs. with the towing load. I have gassed up with 80 gal. right before I put in the water with this set up w/luggage too. Not a big sag either. You'll be fine.
You should not have any trouble. I have the 350 5.7 in mine. I could not be happier with the set-up, even towing 350 miles one way. And I have towed up to 800 miles one way with out a problem.

I have a 1998 Tahoe and drag my 272-SR1 around every weekend. No problem going my normal 10 miles to the ramp. Went to NH in July (from NJ) and wished I still had my 3/4 ton 454 "Burban". That thing definitely had more ass in its pants and did a hell of a better job in mountains Gotta luv those big blocks. The poor Tahoe (350) was back to 2nd gear many , many times. On a brighter note I used to have a 21' Liberator , just a little smaller than your F233 , and the Tahoe did a good job both handling and power wise. Both have the GM tow package.

I have a 99 yukon 4d slt 3.73 tow package oil/trans cooler
added a alum trans pan 2 quarts extra cooling finns and drain.
really help soak up extra heat on those hills.
17" weld racings with 265/17/70 which puts me around 3.69
25' 5500lbs without gear on the flats I can use the cruise,
hills 3rd, steep hills 2nd is sometimes needed.

I tow a 32' boat with my 96 tahoe 4 door, it's a bit much for it, but only on the takeoff. I set up the trailer correctly, put some decent tounge weight on it, and I tow at 70 mph no problem. I wouldn't even think you have much concern at all. My boat is 7000lbs, plus an aluminum trailer that's 38 feet long, and I ease it up to speed, and it tow's great, straight as an arrow, and stops faster with the trailer than it would without it thanks to triple axle disk brakes on a surge system. I'm over my legal limit I think, but it's so not a concern cuz it handles it like nothing, and if I had a suburban, it would be even better.
Cardshark tows a 388 hustler with his 1500 Suburban all over the place, across the state here in michigan, and to poker runs all over the place within 5-6 hours of michigan, so relax, you're fine.

Personaly i would consider putting airbags in the back to level it out but you should have no problems with 6000lbs.
Just make sure you get the brakes checked out. The stock stuff seems to fade out quick when heated up during hard stopping! I would even conside switching to braided lines to keep them from swelling.
