Need pics of "The Cigarette"
Looking for pics of the original 32 Cary the Cigarette. Have a few but they are low resolution . I have searched the site but many pics that were loaded with Imageshack in the past seem to be no longer viewable.
|
Tommy, remember when that boat raced it was 1969. High resolution was not even a gleam in the 35mm eye.
Sal Magueri was the photographer of that era before he was killed shooting a race. Almost all of it was black and white. I may have some extra PR shots that Don sent out with his press releases back then, I will bring them to OFF. |
Looking forward to it Charlie See you there

Try Beken,
They took pictures of the Cowes race when he was there in '69. If you fill out their request form they will send you proofs for what they have. http://www.beken.co.uk/galleries/dis...otor%20vessels Jeff |

Great pics Ratman . Many that I have never seen. The line drawing is something I posted here many years ago and it was pretty small wish I could find a larger version of it.

Thanks, some of them are from Graham Stevens here in the UK, he has a truly incredible collection of media........

Here are some photos of my Dads 482s in Magnum Tornado. I have been told that these were some of the only 482s in existence at the time the boat sank at the end of Aug 68. They use the same carbs and exhaust manifolds. They made about 450-500hp. After an old rum runner boat from the prohibition times

Those show The Cigarette crew celebrating the Bahamas 500 win. We have the full color film of that race and it shows Don starting the race with his helmet on and later it's off for good. The Cigarette was the name of the famous Brooklyn rum runner during prohibition. He was from Brooklyn and knew of the fame of the boat. He called three of his race boats by that name. The first was a Formula 233 with a single engine sterndrive. The second was a 28 foot Magnum with another single engine sterndrive. And the last is the most famous of all, the boat pictured here, a 32 foot Cary with twin sterndrives. |
The hand shake photo is priceless :D
