Thunderbolt iv ignition, school please
I know nothing about these, please school me on these.
Are they any good? Do they contain rev limiter? If so rpm? Reprogramable? Thank you in advance. |
I have limited knowledge of the TB IV ignition but learned a TON from this forum. I've had issues with mine, but it was a bad coil. There's no rev limiter and the modules have pre-set advance curves that are non adjustable. I went from a 22 degree module to a 24 degree module, it really woke up my 350.
Use the search function and there's a bunch of threads on it with TONS of info. |
No reprograming nor rev limiter built into this ignition set up. Also no putting the ignition / engine into base timing mode when adjusting timing and or setting timing. Old school set up and basically very basic and easy to work on. No knock control like the T-Bolt V offers either. A quality cap & rotor always helps as well.

So it seems from your input and further research here on oso that this is a reliable and adaquate component. Symplistic in nature but solid. Finally something reusable on the 454/330.
Thank you for the assistance. |
Just make sure all connections are tight and corrosion free. I also installed a MSD high vibration coil and installed DEI heat protective barrier behind the ignition module.

Keep a spare trigger with you. They are made in China now..... Some can be 400-500 less at wfo. Some just quit, some misfire. I have switched to MSDs

Any difference between gen 1 and gen2 other than size?
