**disclaimer**

I quit smoking yesterday. I have pretty much secluded myself in my house to avoid A. going to jail and/or B. killing someone.

So if I suddenly threaten to kill someone for asking if they put an ebay electric supercharger on a stock 7.4, can they make 700 hp and break 100.......... or similiarly head off into left field, please disregard and/or throw cheeseburgers in my general direction. Holy crapI think I have eaten a weeks worth of groceries in the last 24 hours.

JRider 11-17-2014 07:50 PM

I chewed off and on for years, at the peak I was chewing most of the day. Tapered it off to avoiding it at work and only in the garage and golfing. Finally I fugured out I didnt like it much anymore and dont even crave it anymore. Mind you, chewy has 10 times the nicotine as a ciggy...you can do it.

27daytona 11-17-2014 08:06 PM

I quit 18 years ago. I came home from work and my wife at that time told me that I smelled like cig smoke. Duh, I probably smoked a pack at work. She informed me that she had not smoked in 5 days. I hadn't noticed because I pretty much hated her. I quit smoking and have not touched one since. Figured that if she could quit, and she is weak, I could quit. Divorced her shortly after that day. I do not hate her anymore, strong dislike, but have to thank her for that day. Hang in there. I attempted to stop a 100 times but that day stuck. Good luck. Doug

January 14th I threw the pack out and all the lighters. That was the day Dad told me he had cancer.

The gum helped and i think packed a bigger wallup than the cigs. The change in routine was the hardest.... Not going out for the 9:30 break with everyone, getting in the car, couldn't drink beer for a month. Craving was too strong.

Almost a year now and i could pick back up the habit in a minute but Dads lookin' down on me now and that was his dying lesson to me. I feel ten years younger and getting out for walks is huge for me to burn off nervous energy. Don't know why, but Listerine helped too!

Stick to it, people around you never said anything but your breath smelled like dog sheet

Speedracer29 11-17-2014 09:46 PM

I haven't touched a cigarette since August. I do keep an e-cig close by though..... because homiciding random idiots is frowned upon in this society.
If you think you can (quit), you will. If you think you can't, you're right.

Speedracer29 11-17-2014 09:49 PM

Oh, almost forgot- don't worry too much about going to jail.... They don't have cigarettes there anymore, and they only pick on the pretty honkies. You'll be fine.

Wobble 11-17-2014 09:56 PM

I quit 1/1/2008 I will not touch another one. You might want to get nicotine gum or an e-cig for the tough days. I used patches but doubled the time on each stage, cost twice as much but that amounts to nothing compared to the value in quiting

phragle 11-17-2014 09:57 PM

e cigs, patches gum etc are all out. Job hunting and my industry drug and nicotine tests........

glassdave 11-17-2014 10:04 PM

damn dude you just cant catch a break . . . . . hey we should be water testing the USGS cat in another week or two you can come along if ya want for a distraction lol if the friggin lake isnt froze

Quick2500 11-17-2014 10:16 PM

I quit in 09. I used regular chewing gum as a distraction. I think I spent more on gum than I would have on cigs the first few weeks.

Young Performance 11-17-2014 10:45 PM

I have tried a few times, but I was never able to completely quit for good. After my second back surgery (spinal fusion), I spent over a week in the hospital. I was so doped up that I didn't even think about smoking. I thought I had it licked. As soon as I left the hospital, I wanted a cig. I lit it up and took one drag and it was the most aweful thing I had ever tasted. But stupid me just kept trying until it tasted good again.

My wife quit about a year ago and uses an E cig. The biggest problem that I see with them is that there is no regulation. You have no idea what is in those bottles of oil. I always joke with her that she is smoking donkey semen that was bottled by some crack head in his basment.

I quit for 18 years then on a motorcycle trip in the northwoods of Wisconsin, I had dinner with a guy I didn't know. It was a blackened filet at Blink Bonnies. Right when we finished he sat back and lit one. It smelled so good after just eating that steak, I got one from him and that was it. Smoked for another 6 years until I got some Chantix. Not only did it work but I had really cool dreams from this stuff. Once dreamed I was blowing down the Kennedy expressway in a 39 cig, weaving in and out of traffic (cars). Blasted the Harlem ave overpass with a giant roost, paid my toll at O'Hare and opened it up going west on I90. Its been a year and o be honest if I could I would smoke. I like the entire ritual of lighting up, flicking the ashes, etc.

Good luck and try some Chantix

BoatnBrad 11-18-2014 06:51 AM

You can do it. Find things to keep your mind off of it and your hands busy. I enjoyed smoking cigs for years. I was asked by my wife, kids to quit countless times. I tried using gum, patches, cold turkey with no success. I did alot of researching about e-cig. I now have one. I only use it when I really want/need it. In March I will make a year. It has made it alot easier.

buck35 11-18-2014 06:58 AM

Hmmm, you guys have me thinking about it. :fear:

Donziben 11-18-2014 07:06 AM

Good luck!!

I wish I could, I'm not having very good luck quitting. I quit 2yrs ago for about 7months, then came winter and a night of heavy drinking and I'm back to smoking. The wife and I bought our top gun 1 1/2 yrs ago, promised her when we bought it I would quit, even went as far as naming the boat "last pack"!!! It's going to be a good boat name when I actually do quit but right now it just kicks me in the balls when I look at it! Lol

27daytona 11-18-2014 07:36 AM

I treat my former smoking habit as an addiction similar to drug or alcohol. I had relapse so many times in the past and finally realize that "just one" could never happen again. After 18 years, I still want one. Support is important so tell everyone that you know that you have stopped. I quit without any aids but use whatever works at any cost. Good luck. Buy yourself a cool reward for quitting. Doug

tbirdusa 11-18-2014 07:39 AM

You can get E cig with no nicotine, might try that to ease the craving. Or, just take unemployment.......you get like 50 months i hear

bulletbob 11-18-2014 07:51 AM

I quit 25 years ago. If I can do it you can do it FOCKER!!!!!

Baldie 11-18-2014 07:51 AM

What are you job hunting for? Health care field? My family is in HR in a pretty big firm in Toledo, I could at least get you a interview if needed.

Wobble 11-18-2014 09:05 AM

FWIW Since I quit, my wife switched to e-cigs, (greensmoke on the lowest nicotine). Best friend also quit, if the people close to you see you succeed it inspires them to rethink their smoking also.

Pretty much a win-win except for the eating. Might as well decide to quit sugar and high fat at the same time. I gained a lot but have lost all but ten which I am working on. Would have been a lot easier to watch my total calories in the first place.

tbirdusa 11-18-2014 09:30 AM

I've got to quit reading this thread..... its making me want a smoke.

I have made it off chew for 6 - 8 months on multiple occasions and it never fails, I get hammered at some social outing, a buddy gives me a pinch, and the next day I am at the store buy a can...

CHIT SUCKS!!!
