If you had the choice????

If you had the choice of what boat to buy what would you buy. Catamaran or V-bottom...what bottom conventional or step....cored or solid laminate boat.....epoxy or resin....whatever you guys get the point what would you spend the money on to buy a new boat......Sean

Dock Holiday 08-30-2002 07:01 PM

Sean,

In the perfect world everyone would own seven boats.

1) Cat with Big Power
2) 35+ Foot Vee with Big Power
3) Luxury Cruiser with Big Power
4) Power Toons 65MPH+ Party Barge
5) Ski Boat with Big Power
6) Bass Boat with Big Power
7) Blow Boat with Big Diesel Power

In that order.

One thing they all have in comman is "Big Power" LOL

But even though I have not had much experience with cats, The perfect boat if I could have anything would be a large cat with a cuddy.

MIKE'S new 42 OUTERLIMITS low deck with his pair of 1400's in it.   :D :D

Indy 08-30-2002 09:13 PM

I'm with Too Old on this one...37' AT w/reliable power, maybe a pristine conventional hull 90s Top Gun (I know it would be a used boat, but new for me :D ) No step, notch, pad, or other BS. I'll take the overnighting goodies though, nothing like a Nantucket, Newport, Martha's Vinyard, Montauk vacation with your own hotel that hauls butt :D

Steve 1 08-30-2002 09:27 PM

Of course a Catamaran If not one of Mine then Second Choice of a Skater!
And yes cored no discussion there 100%! Now resin system, in the “Room temperature cure World “! There is a nice Dow Vinyl Ester I like, or pick an Epoxy System!:)

And the New Warrior/Apache

BAJA WILL 08-30-2002 10:57 PM

I would take a AT with same set up as Jassman, KE 675s or a 38 Fountain or 38 Playboy Cig all with the 675s. I will have one of the mentioned just is going to take a few more years.

Side note, never been in a big cat so??

WILL:p

puder 08-30-2002 11:13 PM

Tbonepmp 08-30-2002 11:57 PM

I agree with FeverMike,
Except Mine WILL be a
31ft with a Diesal and a
Splitter Box with 2 IMCO
Drives.
Built one at Team Scarab a
few years ago, Prototype
with 2 Volvo drives.
Sean I think you remember
It.

pstorti 08-31-2002 10:25 AM

Donzi 38ZX with twin 1500hp GE turbines and arneson drives!!!

H2Xmark 08-31-2002 01:18 PM

I would go with a bigger cat type boat, faster hull than a V , also you can get great speed with out super big HP. and the big cats eat up the big water! they even have cabins with heads, sinks and many other amenities, just my 2 cents

Ruben Bermudez 08-31-2002 07:53 PM

Easy

Rigid/inflatable, outboards on steroids.

Jacques Cousteau usta beat the crap outa 'em.

Run O/B till it's guts is hangin' out,
kick it over the side in 300' of water,
buy another.

Continue till the inflatable is junk.

Boats should be disposable...

Warrior 36 08-31-2002 09:05 PM

A 36 Apache 1/4 cabin stepped with the new merc 525 motor's and turn key.

Tinkerer 08-31-2002 09:09 PM

80 ft Sunseeker with big diesels and the turbine kicker so that boat has a top speed of at least 80 mph

Steve 1 08-31-2002 09:14 PM

LOL Tinker :D

Tinkerer 08-31-2002 09:16 PM

HEY WERE DREAMING HERE
THE NEXT BOAT MAY BE A 30+ CAT WITH TWIN 750 hp ENGINES.
My wife wants a cruiser but we don't sleep on the boat much any more so why not get a cat with a cabin???

WETTE VETTE 08-31-2002 09:24 PM

21 Schiada with a 1300 quad rotor big block. Zero to sixty in 5 seconds and a 115 MPH top end with the ability to do 80 MPH plus hair pin corners! This would be a v-drive with a turbo 400 3 speed trans. No more ***** footing around with Bravos. 1300 HP to a vdrive is like a Bravo behind a 350 Mag!!!:D

OK lets play poker boys what if, hypothetically speaking, a 42' boat that ran very well in the rough emerged and performed with the current top dogs.....would anyone have any interest in at least taking a ride with me in it.....I promise I won't throw you out of the boat especially if you have your check book with you...

aussie 09-01-2002 05:31 AM

Hey Sean, I'd love a ride !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave.

38 Top Gun. Straight bottom, no pads, no notches, just a proven hull.

Big reliable power. Lots of cubic inch, but no superchargers or Turbos.

Need some cabin space, but with A/C.

Mike J 09-01-2002 10:26 AM
