How fast is a twin 300 34 vs. triple 300 34?

Nascat, beautiful color scheme!

Terry would know this best or maybe even Mark from SportBoats. What I've heard is a Twin Merc 300 boat runs approx 67-68mph & a triple 300 in the 72-74mph range. I'm sure some of the current Twin / Triple 300 owners can chime in w/ accurate speeds.

Knot 4 Me 01-06-2015 12:46 PM

At LOTO, a twin 300 Vrod 340 runs low to mid 60's depending on water, weather, and fuel/passenger load. A 340 twin takes some time to plane with a belly full of fuel!

Wow long thread!

Twin 300's on a 34 does 63-64. Trips 73-75.

Have fun and thanks Mike.

I rather post accurate speeds over hearsay, thanks for chiming in today not to mention the progress pics. I plan to post those later!

I received these today courtesy of Mr. Sobo.

I know what you are thinking " are those 2 x 4's from Lowe's" ?

My understanding is the 2 x 4's are there to keep the hulls shape until the fuel tanks installed. The tanks are secured to the angle iron. I believe the stringers will then be covered & finished in Kevlar.

Looking forward to seeing the deck joined with the hull next.

I think that's Hull 34-57 in the background, a few weeks ahead of mine & also progressing nicely. Erik1976 that your 340?

blingbling 01-08-2015 09:19 PM

In April my 34 will be two years old. I have a tendency of every two or three years getting a new CC. I can tell you honestly that from how happy I've been with my 34 the thought of a new CC hasn't really crossed my mind.

I remember the TS progress pics at that point, your going to enjoy your boat tremendously.

I still see no hole in the bottom for a bow thruster...

That's bc mine is stealth resembling the torpedo tube on a submarine. It's only visible when in use.

PFD's- I own several Lifeline vests from the Skater & I think they offer a great product but I was wondering what my fellow performance CC owners are wearing while boating, when participating in a poker run or any type of long haul at speed (like a run to the Keys or Bahamas).

Please share the brand, model & where you purchased the PFD you are endorsing!

Thanks in Advance

Hoping to see a pic of the deck & hull this week!

I'm definitely a Checklist guy so I can appreciate the use of one from a structure, accountability & organizational standpoint.

The deck still needs to be cut out for the helm & lounger. Nor-Tech has one mold for the deck then modifies the part to match the boats configuration. A fishing boat that doesn't have the forward lounger ends up w/ much more open floor space. Obviously easier to cut a section out of the deck floor than it would to glass a filler piece back in.

As discussed earlier the lounger has been shortened 14" & the corners modified to provide more walk thru area between the forward bench seating & lounger.

I wore a ski vest on my last trip back and forth two weeks ago, but only because the water is colder and rougher this time of year, in the summer I don't wear one. The water is warm enough not to get hypothermia.

NASCAT 01-21-2015 07:36 AM

A lanyard is a no brainer but I would think wearing a PFD running a boat capable of speeds well above 50mph would be smart especially in open or large bodies of water where the rogue waves can sneak up on you.

bill63 01-21-2015 08:30 AM

Looks Great, I like the lounger being cut back. I had mine removed and put a seat in front of the helm. My wife likes a dance floor !!!!

Purchasing my Nor-Tech thru Mark Bonafide & SportBoats is paying dividends just like I hoped it would. Not only has my experience to date been 1st class, Sportboats relationship with & proximity to the Nor-Tech facility has been a big plus during the build process.

One of the other things myself & several others are benefitting from in a big way is the fact that SportBoats has several Nor-Techs in production currently so the communication w/ Terry & others at Nor-Tech is about daily & site visits a minimum of once a week if not twice.

Sportboats 01-24-2015 11:45 AM

Thanks NASCAT for all of your kind words!! We are very fortunate to be so close to the NT plant and less than 2 hours drive from Cigarette as well.

Things are definitely booming at Nor-Tech for us, we currently have 3 sold boats in production. Also our 2015 Cigarette 39 GTS will complete for the Miami Show and is available for delivery after the show.

Another Productive Week at Nor-tech

I don't want to sound like a broken record but today is the conclusion of 3 straight weeks of solid progress by the folks at Nor-Tech not to mention another week of site visits by SportBoats. Progress & communication has been excellent as has the attention to detail. Planning to swing by Nor-tech myself Miami Boat Show weekend for a personal looksee!

I'm very pleased w/ the way the custom bow seating is coming together. Remember Nor-Tech 340's don't typically come w/ the forward wraparound bench seating, just the 390's. The measurements taken off the first one ever built & some additional planning seems to be yielding a very nicely laid out & functional area.

damdonzi 01-30-2015 08:19 PM

Like this layout much better. Congratulations and hope you enjoy the hell out of it!

NASCAT 01-30-2015 08:24 PM

Thanks DD, I can't take credit for being the first but when I originally asked if it was possible Terry Sobo walked me back into the rigging area where the Blue & White 340 I posted pics of earlier in this thread was under construction. Seeing it in person confirmed my opting for this configuration.

fastdonzi 01-30-2015 09:04 PM

The Hull & Deck are Bonded together??? Wow !!! That makes a Nice Stiff structure. What covers all the access ports?? Combing / Padding??? That is gonna be a First Class Vessel. Their attention to detail and your creativity/willingness to be "Custom" is certainly going to pay Dividends... Awesome Job :)

daddy 01-30-2015 09:11 PM

How fast will it be with 700's and 6's?

FD- I appreciate the kind words, I'm pretty pleased with the way it's all coming together to date. I feel like I'm benefiting from a tremendous joint effort where everyone (Nor-Tech, SportBoats & myself) are all pulling on the same side of the rope towards a common goal. Each one of the parties involved has contributed with an idea that's custom or unique.

I believe the oval ports are for rigging purposes. You are correct they will be hidden behind the coaming pads.

Talk about stiff & strong if you could see the thickness of the cockpit liner / deck, it's one hefty piece. Has to be 1.75 - 2" thick.

Erik,

Your boat is coming along nicely. Is that a black hull w/ a dark silver boot stripe?? Post more pics as you get them.
I'll be there Fri 2/13 if there's anything I can do for you, then cruising over to the boat show.

Have you named it yet? I was thinking of cool boat names already. Looks great

Yeah that's not really a concern. :) These were all taken at 50 MPH just south of Bimini.

Pstorti- I could get use to boating in those waters & conditions!

Steet- I plan to have my graphics guy create a NASTECH & NASCON in the NASCAR bar font at your recommendation & see what that looks like.

It's actually a really dark grey called Havana with a gold/silver stripe.

Looks sharp regardless!

I'm hearing I'll be in paint as early as tomorrow. Perfect timing, this way I can see the finished product in person next week!

Got a related question for you.....When you see the NASCARscript with REDNECKwritten in the middle, is that a compliment or insult?

Can't say I've EVER seen such in my 20+ yrs.

If I saw one I certainly wouldn't take it personally.

I own a T-shirt that says DeadBull w/ the RedBull logo upside down. I thought it was unique so I bought one, beyond that it means nothing to me!

Sorry to derail a great thread!

88 sold among the worlds population is slightly lacking! Appears most don't think it's worth their $6.

Based on what I hear & read today if I told everyone I used to be a Military Sniper someone would have a problem with it. Bottomline is I'm used to it, so the redneck comments don't really phase me. I've been a part of 10 Championships w/ 4 different drivers in NASCAR's 3 Top Series. No shame at what I do here!

SkaterMike82 02-02-2015 03:33 PM

Good for you Nascat. You are a class act sir. Congrats on your new ride.

MidOcean 02-02-2015 03:39 PM

I've spent a lot of time with Michael - both in and out of the Hendrick Shop. These guys are anything but "Rednecks." NASA is more like it.

And I'll admit, at the beginning I didn't know how to spell NASCAR. In retrospect, the education was amazing.

Congrats on your new purchase. Just curious in all of your research, how did the Cig 39 or some of the others CC from say Midnight Express fair and what didn't you like about them that drove your decision with the 340. No right or wrong answer, just curious what your thoughts are on the other similar CC's.

Biff,

Great question & one I have 2 answers for:

Cigarette- I couldn't afford a new Cig so price point was part of the equation but I did consider a very nice low hr 39GT w/ triple 300's & a cabin. The helm is much smaller than the Nor-Tech which means the wind protection isn't as good, the Cig also didn't have any type of bow lounger nor a bench seat on the front side of the helm, just access to the head. While I realize the Cig is larger than the Nor-Tech 340 I still don't believe the hull is as efficient meaning h.p. to weight ratio wise. Unfortunately the Cigarette was missing too many of my MUST have items.

Midnight Express- I don't know anyone that owns one so my exposure to the line is quite limited. In fact I've probably only seen them at the boat show. They actually appeal to me style wise BUT no matter what size I was considering (34'-39') they all have an 11' beam. I realize the Nor-Tech has an 10' beam which is no more legal than an 11' beam boat but as a package the Nor-Tech is a much more nimble package for me to manage.

I am fairly tight w/ several who are well respected in the boating industry, one of those being Scott Sjogren. Scott is promoting & selling the new Mystic but when I asked him what he thought of all the boats I was considering (Sunsation & Statement included) Scott said I won't find a better all around package than the Nor-Tech 340. He knows b/c he used sell them & own one. Great wind protection, very dry boat & probably best in class from a hull efficiency standpoint.

On top of that the Nor-Tech 340 met more MUST have criteria than any other boat I was considering.

I realize I haven't even received my boat let alone spent the 1st hour behind the wheel but I feel very confident about my decision & am very much looking forward to taking delivery of & boating with my 340 come April.

Thanks again for the votes of approval!
